VM was a club and the fourms only helped stretch to the public and fellow tuners

You don't seem to understand something, this was a club well before official members existed, the official members section caused uneasyness between the non official members, and the club was slowly deteriorating.
This is still a club in every aspect, the only change is that everyone is welcome to be a club member, until their membership is revoked for obvious reasons.
