The truck with airbags that had its plates pulled was because the brackets for the 4 links were too thin, and the bolts were pulling right through. It was only a matter of time before they let go completely. That same night they had another truck on airbags go through, and he left ticket free.
As for them being more willing to help out.... Its because they are getting bad press from enthousiasts for being unwilling to work towards solving the problem. They're out to keep the general public happy, and if the common conception is that they're unwilling to help, its a bad image.
