Sound System problems

Hey everyone

So I was building my custum encloser for my trunk, I got it all up and running and everything sounded great for couple weeks. I have 2 12 inch subs going off one amp. I had the hooked up simple. But someone told me to hook the up bridged for a better sound, so I tried that and got it working they sounded better. So I went to work yesturday and everything was working fine and then I came out of work and started my car up and went to hear my beats for the ride home and all I heard from the subs was a static sound. All my speakers and everything were working fine just didn't have any base. So I went back to my trunk and looked at the amp to see if anything was wrong and my protection light was on and the subs were just making a low rumble sound. So I changed the wires back to see if that made a difference and it didn't do anything. Can someone tell me if this has happened to them, because that protection light is always on now.
please help

thanks

Sorry it was so long

This usually means the subs are blown, or the amp has taken a kick, what amp do you have and also subs?

Yes, J Crusher is fairly accurate, the Dub series amps are funny!!! I had one and I bought it just cause it was shiny(im not even joking here) sold it cheap one day for some cash!! it pumped fairly nice, I would consider taking the speaker wires off the amp, and try turning it on, I doubt your MB quarts subs would be blown, they are Notorious for taking some punishment!!

I took the wires off and its still doing it, the amp fan is on and it all lights up. Is there a way to test everything out, I am not a real sound system junky, I am trying to learn a few things about it but I am still new at it.

by the sounds of it, I thinking theamp is done for, Some amps aren't meant to go bridged and a low ohm's! Also I think I spotted you by giant tiger yesterday!! lol

I was probably on my way home or leaving from it since I live up there. Depends on what time it was at. I think I am going to go try mysubs with my buddies amp and see if they still work, if they do then I know what the problem was.

Yea you could have pulled a me and popped a few internals. Some amps will run the lower ohmages for a little while then pop. If you take the speaker wires off completely, turn the deck down to 1 volume and turn car completely off then back on and you still get protection light, amp is euchred. Mine did the exact same thing ended up blowing a couple of little resistors inside.

Glad to hear you got everything working. Polk audio makes some great stuff, btw.

You were probobly running your subs at 1ohm. and your amp probobly isn't 1ohm stable. press on your subs with your hand gently to see if there is movement. that will veryify that your voicecoil didn't weld itself to the magnet. I believe from what your saying though that its your amp. You are most likely using a 2ch amp with your subs. But since your MB quarts are Single voice coil (most likely), you should be using a mono block.
