Hood pins install

Hey I just bought some sparco hood pins for my carbon fibre hood and I was just wondering who you guys would recommend for the install, I can't trust myself because for sure I know I would screw up and do not want to crack the hood. Thanks guys!

Umm well you got the wrong forum. And if you really wanted to know ASAP, search honda-tech. You will find detailed pictured threads.

I personally would never install hood pins, so I have no clue how. But it's pretty simple. Bolt on, probably self tapping screws that will rust the frame, and then lower your hood, drill a hole where the pins would be then put the protective stuff on and your done, I think...

All I can say is measure it out a few times so that they're exactly where you want them to be. Take your time to drill the holes in the carbon fiber. Be very careful and extra slow. One little crack will develop into a whole lot of spider web cracks down the road. If you have a shop doing it, make sure they will replace the hood if they mess it up. If they tell you there gonna do it at your own risk, I wouldn't let them touch it.

I think you'll have a hard time finding a shop willing to do it and assume the risk.

if you do it yourself, measure many times, keep it lubricated, and don't rush yourself you won't have a problem!

im not sure about ur car but my car has these rubber stopper thigns on the rad cradle, i took thsoe off and installed my pins there and the rubber stops left a black mark on the underside of my hood so i knew exactly where to drill....if u or someone else does it u might want to think about mixing up some resin after and applying it in the hole that u cut in the hood

I went one step further and drilled those rubber stoppers out, put my pin through there, and my lock washer and nut on the bottom, also when installing the top part that goes on the hood, instead of just using two faced tape, i used thicker two faced tape, just didn't want anything solid on it, so i could prevent cracking

I am going to attempt putting pins in my CF hood and I work at a marine body shop....one good practise that we always do when putting screws in fibreglass or bolts for that matter is to counter sink the holes after you have done drilling them. It dosnt have to be a huge countersink either. Well made boats practise this and it avoids spider cracks from showing up down the line around snaps and other parts. Putting a small amount of resin on the counter sink is a good idea too
