Wiper Question - #1 Car Club In Kitchener - Waterloo - Cambridge

I just received some Valeo Ultimate wipers for my Civic, and they're similar to that Canadian Tire Reflex style of wiper, except premium quality.

I noticed that with these types of wipers on my car, it seems like they're being pressed down very hard against the windshield. Because of this, it causes the wipers to "stutter" when it's not really wet and the wipers are in use. If it's coming down pretty hard, they work great, but when it's just a bit, you can tell they're 'stuttering' on the windshield.. they don't lift off and skip all over the place, but it could be smoother.

So I'm wondering, can I adjust the arm in some way to not make it press down so hard? How would I do this?

Im dealing with the same problem on my CR-X's rear wiper blade. I have a Reflex blade and it stutters leaving lines of water where it hops across the last bit of every pass. I would also like to know if there was a way to get around this.

my work sells a similar wiper blade and it does the same sort of thing, i haven't tried it myself yet, but apparently if you clean the blade with rubbing alcohol it will stop.

well I dont want to touch it, these are fresh out of the box. I bent the arm a bit and it helps big time.. it was pressing down way too hard..

A: Both, but I think I helped stop it...

Mine only does it in the one direction back to rest location.

If it's chattering in one direction, it's often because the wiper arm has been 'tweaked' from either pressure, years of resting in one position or people using it to clear snow/ice at some point.

Take a careful look at the wiper at rest and see if it's been twisted slightly, and reverse the twist. It doesn't take much, but it'll chatter like a mother if it's happened. If you can't spot a twist, give it a slight twist opposite to the direction that it's chattering, and give it a try.

Sometimes the bushings in the arms have been worn out as well, but most any car i've had that suffered from a brutal chatter was because the arm was twisted or bent.

i wonder what kind of problems your going to run into with those in the winter ( mainly the ice on the windshield)

I've never found the reflex style wipers worth a crap the second even the slightest bit of ice or snow gets stuck to the windscreen. it's not stiff enough and rides up and over anything on the windshield.

But, while new at least in the rain, they do a good job. But i've never had a problem with regular blades clearing water either.

Canadian Tire Reflex is not the same product (or even close enough to compare) as the Valeo Ultimate. If you are to compare these to anything, it's the Bosch Icon wipers.
