G Road Test Question

Im going for my G soon and was just curious as to what you had to do, like what they test you on. Just wondering i figure the obvious, parallel parking, 3 point turn etc. Most of my friends only have there G2's but as for my one with his G he said all he did was a parallel park then hit the highway for a bit and that was it. So ya whoever has there G just let me know what all you did on your test, how it went etc. whatever you want to tell your input is greatly appreciated
thanks
Justin

Do you remember your G2 test? well.. repeat that and you have your G test, lol

for my G it was the same, except no parallel and no 3 point turn, but highway merging, traveling in traffic, emergency stop, reverse parking, parking on a hill, checking blind spots, stopping and starting (too slow or too fast) signalling, and definatly hainvg your hands at 10 & 2 or 3 & 9.. not on the window sill and 12, lol!

If you took driver training call up your trainer and ask for a refresher course. only an hour or two max if you can't drive well at all. it also makes everythign fresh in your mind, almost guaranteeing you pass the test.. that's how I got mine

all an all, it's easy if you remember not to fall into bad habits

The biggest thing that they look for when you are going for your G is how much you observe what is going on around you.

They litterally want to see you looking all around you, mirrors, sides, basically the 360 degree point of view from your car.

They watch for full stops when supposed too, blind spot checking, and control over the car.

Pay $50 and get a lesson the day of, or day before. They will take you on the exact same route and do everything the ministry does so there are no surprises.

I failed a re-test of my G (due to too many points) on the 401, as I was about to merge I adjusted my speed (80km/h or so) so I would merge behind a transport, we were getting off at teh next exit so I didn't feel it neccessary to pass the 2 transports that were doing 90, I just chilled behind them at a safe distance, and I failed, because I didn't pass them (which would have require a speed in excess of the limit) I failed.

It can be tricky, or they can fail you for no good reason. ^in this example she said I should have passed as 90 is unsafely slow for the 401 (I only had those 2 transports on my side), I was dumbfounded

I think that is the MAJOR point in the G road test. I have heard of numerous people who have failed just because of this. You MUST be at 90km/h when merging on the highway, and you DO NOT slow down when exiting until you hit the exit lane...very important points, but points that a lot of us don't even bother worrying about in day to day driving.

Cause half the time people have no damn clue how to merge and are so damn clueless as to speed up that merging at 50-90kmh is a normal. Also no one leaves room for people to merge, which cause people to floor it till the end of the lane, then slam on there brakes and cut the line off doing 20-30kmh or so.

I'm glad you asked about this as I should really get on getting that G liscence...it's been a while now.

A question I have is if you drive a standard transmission car for the test how closely do they pay attention to your shifting and what not...

I went to get my G last year, and I wasn't even allowed to leave the parking lot because of a one centimetre crack in the windshield that was right below the wiper blade. I got an automatic fail. I'm scared to take my car because it is standard and probably don't drive the "textbook way."

I better go again soon as my 5 year window expires in July...so thanks for asking this question, cause it helps me out too!

Never take a standard car to a driving test.......words of my driving instructor.

They are always looking for you doing 10 and 2 on the wheel with your hands, and control of the car. Your foot slips for a second because you are driving standard and your screwed.

My instructor said that too, it's just more for them to watch and test you on. Doing it in STD doens't give you a better license, so why risk failing

and that, your instructor has gotta be dumb or something. Depending on how far it was to the next exit that was likely far more safe then cutting traffic off, accelerating to pass the trucks, and cutting the trucks back off to catch your exit.

Mind you if you had a good couple KMs to go, ya i can see that you should have passed... ugh, technicalities of driving are ghey

I did my G in a little town, so it was easy, we had no large hwy's to do the merging part, just a basic 2 lane hwy we had to merge on at, going 80, passed with flying colours.

its basicly not much different then your g2 test.

I took standard when I got my G 2 weeks ago. Piece of cake. When I took drivers ed, they told me that only 2 of the 8 examiners know how to mark standard. If you gear down, and try not to change gears in the intersections you'll be fine. For my G test, It was exactly the same as G2 + highway driving. Make sure you merge at the speed limit, and dont start slowing down until you have entered the deceleration lane. Other than that you should be fine. I believe that they allow you 31 errors through out the test, and my examiner told me that the average number was 15, and I had 11. BTW, I had one of the standard examiners, and he said that I drove standard exceptionally well. They aren't as strict as you think, and if you have one slightly rough shift they won't nail you for it, and if they do, its not nearly enough to cause you to fail.

Good luck!

WHere have you read this^? As far as I know (my step father was a driving instructor, car/transport) "Merge" isn't even defined in the HTA.

Moot point, but over 90 on the on ramp would have put me ahead of 2 transports, and under 85 put me behind them. I'm over it, But I still do not believe I should have failed.

so what I want to know is, when your on the 401 should you go with the flow (speed wise) or stay at 90? I know of someone who failed because they were going 90 but not with everyone else.
