Ford posts record loss of US$12.7 billion in 2006

Quote:
Ford lost US$5.8 billion in the fourth quarter of last year, due to slumping sales and massive restructuring costs. That pushed the auto manufacturer's deficit for the year to $12.7 billion.

The previous Ford record for an annual loss was $7.39 billion in 1992.

That sucks. I rented a '07 Fusion V6 SEL AWD and really liked it. Sucks to see North American companies taking such loses.

Uh sure, because how much money they lost is the biggest indication in the world of build quality?????

They really need to stop building cars that aren't sold. I don't know how anyone can think like that anymore. Let's just build a whole bunch of cars and hope we can sell them all. It's obvious that doesn't work. Meanwhile, Toyota doesn't even build a car if it's not already sold.

This is where you type a bunch of shit about how awesome your car is. FACT: It's been scientifically proven that the more shit you write in here the less cool your car is. Nine times out of ten the majority of people who talk shit down here don't even have any of the crap they talk about on their car. I drive an 8 year old domestic and barely give two shits about it. I beat the hell out of it and it begs for more, just like your girlfriend. Go ahead, cut me off. I dare ya.

They'll have to have massive layoffs.

Adding to your idea, they should cut their lineup, so many models, changes all the time. I don't even know what cars they sell now.

I agree with the statements made about the over usage of different models. They currently have 19 models of vehicles in their line up. Nobody needs that many. Its like 'barrage them with choices. Hopefully they will choose one' mentality.

Honda has 16, but most of them are variations of each other. Like sedans vs coupes or hybrid vs gas etc.

sad to say, but all of the North American Auto companies are posting huge loss's it's not just Ford, you forget about the huge layoff from Delphi, and the record loss from GM? It's called a recession and we're in for a very very large one since we are about 4 years past due! Get ready to go broke!

They were crappy in some aspects but in others they were number 1, just like many of the other companies. It's heading the way of the Import I'm afraid, cheaper and more reliable.

Doesn't surprise me. Automakers have been reporting losses for a while now if I'm not mistaken. Also really doesn't surprise me cause it IS after all Ford. Yes I am aware my Mazda is partly owned/made whatever by ford. And ford can suck it, wait they already are. Have a nice Day.

The only imports that are actually cheaper are KIA and Hyundai (and maybe not even that).

And crash test five star ratings aren't worth a hell of a lot if your van does not start in the morning
