Debating new vehicle choice opinions needed
So i am looking at 2 vehicles at the moment both are wreaked but thats find dad owns a body shop
First one 2002 Chev Tahoe 5.3 V8 4x4 full leather sunroof loaded just NO 3rd row seat (not a big deal to me) Pewter in colour next is a 2007 Canyon Z71 extended cab (NOT Club ) its only got 3000 MILES on it both are US vehicles bought at the auction. Burgandy in Colour ![]() I find out the prices on BOTH on monday but they are EXTREMELY reasonable I am REALLY leaning towards the Tahoe it could tow the race car trailor if needed be its bigger we have one child so it would be easier to get in and out. Plus the inside storage in the back. but then the Canyon is smaller Maybe better on gas we are not sure what engine is in it yet. Insurance wise right now i am paying 220 a month for full coverage on a 1999 Buick century for the 02 Tahoe and a 94 Cavalier with me as principal on the tahoe i have 1 at fault accident and 3 minor tickets and my g/f pricipal on the cav and she is 23 345 a month for both so its not to bad Canyon and Cavalier is 380 a month ------------------ 1996 Viper Red Cavalier Z24 15.116@90.95 What do i know I'm just another J-Body Owner Last edited by VIPERREDZED; 12-03-2007 at 12:30 PM. |

Canyon >> Tahoe
Besides, weren't they crying on the news today that the sky is falling and gasoline will be a $1.50 this summer? That makes the 3.5 I5 look pretty good compared to the 5.3 V8. The Canyon will still have the balls to haul a car trailer, it just won't do it with as much gusto as the V8. ------------------ This is where you type a bunch of shit about how awesome your car is. FACT: It's been scientifically proven that the more shit you write in here the less cool your car is. Nine times out of ten the majority of people who talk shit down here don't even have any of the crap they talk about on their car. I drive an 8 year old domestic and barely give two shits about it. I beat the hell out of it and it begs for more, just like your girlfriend. Go ahead, cut me off. I dare ya. |

Take the smaller one. The 5.3 sucks gas like it's free - apparently the new 6.0L V8 is better on gas than the old 5.3 - this from someone who has owned both (still drives the 6L).
Owning a vehicle year round because you will need it to tow a trailer for 3 weekends every year is nuts in my opinion but to each their own. You could own something smaller and cheaper on insurance then rent a big beast when you need to tow something. If you're towing every other week it's a different story, get the big beast but if you're keeping it for a while you'll really feel it in the wallet when gas hits 1.40 and up. Vortec 5.3L V8 2WD 14/20 (17L/100k - 12L/100k hwy) Fuel (gal. approx.) 26 (that's 100L) ------------------ Gettin' fat - only exercise now is shifting gears ![]() |

i never stated this either i will NOT be commuting with the Tahoe it will basically stayin park hill for my g/f to drive 4 or 5 blocks to work or pick the kid up from school. i will use the Cavalier for my 50minute commute to downtown london.
i would be towing probably every weekend in the summer......if we take both cars to the track. my dads for a 04 2500HD with the 6.0 and it drink gas aswell. And the Tahoe is 4x4. and my 1999 Buick Century gets 20mph at the moment so its no better ------------------ 1996 Viper Red Cavalier Z24 15.116@90.95 What do i know I'm just another J-Body Owner |

haha i think its the g/fs mind is made up i find out how much they BOTH are today the tahoe is hit in the front (i have a front end) and i don't know what the damage to the Canyon is yet but it only has 3000 miles on it.......Tahoe is cheaper on insurance and dad rebuilds full size GM/Chev trucks on the side to parts are plentiful it anything breaks

on a side note with having a child, I had a friend that had an extend cab truck, and he had alot of trouble gettin his little guy in and outta the back of the truck, mind you it was older back when they didnt even have doors that opened on both sides, but more than anything I would consider the room for the kid, plus whether or not there will be any more little ones coming some day...my 2 cents...

i say the tahoe because it has more potential uses than the canyon... use it for today not what might be tomorrow... tomorrow may not be what we intend it to me.

Go with the Tahoe. Yeah will be more expensive on gas (not as much as you would think). Towing the race car will be much easier with the Tahoe. Also it will be a more comfortable ride. Greg you will be stupid not to take the Tahoe.

Take the tahoe. I bet if driven the same the tahoe and canyon will be identical on gas consumption.
The tahoe is amazing in the winter.. while pickups usually suck. I towed quite a bit with mine when I had it, I even towed a 12,000LB Boat with it for 30KM and it did it fine. Quite honestly, the tahoe and the excursion were two of the best vehicles I have ever owned. ------------------ Weather in Kitchener: ![]() (And when updated) |
