This thread is going to stay open. The reason for that is because there is a lot of anamonity towards VM from a lot of the people who frequent on here. Honestly I do not see the problem with the site. Sure its not as popular as it was in the past and a lot of the quality posts have gone down hill in the last year, but still the site is fully functional and we do have a lot of members who are online at any given point in time and a lot of guest who view the site aswell.

From what I can see is that people are upset because VM isnt what it used to be, but then again go back even further before Nick sold it in the first place. The real day VM 'died' was the day of the MTO bust. Where so many people got pulled over. From there the meets were never the same. Not even close. You go from hundreds and hundreds of cars a week to 20 - 40 cars and its always the same people.

If someone was to sell the site after that time point was the perfect time to do so. As winter hit a bunch of other clubs in the area were being created and others were going through their own drama. That stuff came on VM aswell. People got upset with the site being sold, changed and new management. People didnt like it for one reason or another. They have that right there is nothing wrong with that. Then the new owner Tom, didnt like the way that the members were interacting and felt that they didnt have the loyalty to support a local club anymore and was frusterated with the time and effort he put into the site without any members attempting to participate. Which is more than understandable.

From there it got sold to Saadu and essentially he did nothing with the site. Members who were still left decided that they were not liking how the site could be bought and sold as a thing. Thus making VM not a club anymore but a thing to be bought and sold. Many members, including myself, spent a lot of time helping out the club over the years to make it the largest club in Ontario with the most diverse members. With the 3 owners, at that point in one year many of us lost hope that VM would be anything more than just a website anymore.

As you all know Saadu wasnt happy with the way VM was going either. He expected more from the site and he sold it off to Warren and Michael who are the current owners now. These guys are business men and work through their company to make money. They aquired VM as an investment. Being from the US Im sure that a lot of people feel that they are too far away to help VM be anything other than a website.

People shouldnt be complaining about advertisements. All websites cost money to run, from the biggest to the smallest. You have to take that into consideration. Name a large website that doenst have advertising on it. There isnt really, unless its a site that sells something else or makes money in another way. You have to pay so you have to make money to cover those costs.

If you guys do not want to participate on VM because its not a car club anymore than Im sorry to hear that. Most of the posts in the last 5 months have been people bitching and complaining. Which I just dont understand. Nobody pays to be a member here. Nobody has to foot any of the bills. Nobody has to do anything. But still for people who are getting a website to participate in for free there are a lot of complaints.

Complaining isnt going to solve anything. Saying "VM isnt what it was like back in the day" isnt going to solve anything either. Participating in the site in a honest and helpful way will make VM better with each smart and intelligent post you make. Flame wars and such are not going to help anyone.

If you want VM to be like it was before then work with the moderators and administrators to make it that way. We are here to make VM what it can be. Dont just sit behind your computer and say "Is it just me or is VM going downhill recently?" Of course its not just you. We all see that VM isnt doing the best right now. The reason for this is lack of people willing to put the time and effort into this site to make it good, and possibly great again.

So maybe read over what I wrote and think about it. Nobody is out to make millions of the site. Im sure Michael and Warren are not rolling in their money from buying VM. Its an investment in a group of people. They are backing the site so that everyone can participate for free. Just like any investor. They have faith in VM. Maybe some of you guys should aswell.

Maybe it was just a slow news day in my world when I made that post. Or I just noticed the decline more than usual.

I guess you're right, no point in beating a dead horse.

This is where you type a bunch of shit about how awesome your car is. FACT: It's been scientifically proven that the more shit you write in here the less cool your car is. Nine times out of ten the majority of people who talk shit down here don't even have any of the crap they talk about on their car. I drive an 8 year old domestic and barely give two shits about it. I beat the hell out of it and it begs for more, just like your girlfriend. Go ahead, cut me off. I dare ya.

when the club started, most of the people were 19 - 22. Those people are now at least 25 and have moved on to far more interesting things than standing around in parking lots. Harsh but lets be objective here. That group was tight and gave the club "soul". when those people got bored and moved on there was no one to replace them. The site being treated like a commodity only exacerbated this problem. I'm part of the group that has moved on and only come here for entertainment purposes.

It's a forum now and forums are notoriously difficult to continue moving when there isn't a central focus like a cause or product. It's dead, let it go. It'll be back up on sitepoint sooner or later at a discount price.

people will get annoyed with me saying this, but this is EXACLY how PSA is now.. most members between 19-22 years of age... and it has a soul, espiecally with the first 30-35 "close members"

ps we still enjoy hanging out in parking lots, but I'm sure our time will come to, and we will move on

I'm no longer into standing around a parking lot, although I do miss those days.
Those were some good times

BINGO!!!

It's quite humourous now thinking back to the sort of stuff we (as a group) did back then. I look at it now and think "what a waste of money, I souped up a fucking Ford Escort".

I still say the same thing to myself when I check out some of the activities at PSA but to each their own, I won't ever insult them over it but I definitely do laugh to myself about it because it is ironic.

I still receive phone calls from PAS Mag asking me to renew my subscription which I haven't had for over 3 years and I usually just laugh at the 18 year old girl on the other end that has zero business experience and just say that I've "out-grown" the industry.

In the end, it all comes down to money and aside from my main hobbies which are sports; where I actually get something out of it (ie. healthy/active living), I'd much rather invest my money into something with an actual ROI.
