Hmmm personally I think Audis are money pits, and if you want to talk about quality, every car, even BMW has quality issues, some more some less.
For 36K you can buy a 4-5 year old audi S4 or you can buy a brand new TSX.
Again, if you like it go for it, but think of the costs first if that's an issue.

VW HAS gone down hill bigtime over the years. back in the day when the rabbitt and first gen jetta were aroung the quality was A1. from then on though i have heard nothing but complaints from everyone i know that owns one.

my uncles '92 jetta= 2 tranny's (auto), a cooling fan that wouldn't stop running, ,small misc crap.

sister-in-law's 02 1.8T= 3 times in for coilpacks, once in for MAF sensor failure. all this on a car with 25000k.

buddy of mine with a 02 TDI, misc shit breaking off in the interior, the car shutting off on him for no reason and leaving him stranded. (didn't find out the issue here)

3 strikes your out in my book. it doesn't take too much of a look on the internet to find LOADS of people with the same problems that have been going on for years. warranty or not it's a PITA to have take it in for fixing all the time.

it's kinda funny that Hyundai scored higher than VW in the JD Powers report too.

S4's are like the M3 of Audi, and could probably out-handle an E46 due to the quattro, but in a straight line M3 gets it. Amazing little cars.

Owned a few Audi's. They have been really good for me, but when your occasional repair comes up, its usually a bit pricy, as are most German cars. Its expected. But you get the quality as well.

I know all about the S4/A4 differences... I was asking Mandy if she had thought of looking an S4 instead, since they're not that expensive considering what you get.

If you get a chip, and the RS4(K04) turbo's you can easily make 300whp + on a drive it on a daily basis with no issues. Plus you can drive it all winter easily since its awd.

Well, no offence to anyone but my personal experience is that 1.8T is way too underpowered for a 2800+lbs car, yes you can chip-it, upgrade the turbo, all the other shit that will cost you a fortune...but the car is still heavy. I don't mind the power of a 1.8T and it's possibilities but if you are getting a good class automobile you start at the 6's. I am not going to argue which can produce more power cause they both have the capability to do it...but at the end which one will last you longer ??? I've drove the 1.8T's and the 6's and the S4 and no doubt about it I will stay with the 6's. This is not a car to do 8's or 10's down the block- for that you got your Honda's. This is a luxury car and it's well known to perform well for what it's got, as for maintenance fees...well that's another chapter.

Choose wise.

Cheers.

Good Luck Mandy.

Yup, a fortune of $400 dollars for a chip to run 14.5's all day! that's a fortune!
