Pocket Bikes/Mini-Bikes....

Just wondering, i saw a few of these on the road yesterday, and im interested in getting one, but i dont wanna pay more then 400-600 bux for one. Just some questions, are they street legal, do you need a lisence, i have g1 though, and do you have to have them insured.

If anyone knows where i can get one and cheap, let me know. Thanks

um your not going to get one for under $400, not new anyway. Maybe used and in "AS IS" condition. They are legal to ride where ever bicycles are allowed if i am not mistaken, no licence or insurance is needed. I think there is a post somewhere on here explaining the rules and what not. Do a search and you will find it, wont be hard as it was brought up not to long ago.

I heard they were classified as a motorcycle, so they can be used on the road, correct me if im wrong though. Either a pocket bike or the bigger mini bikes is cool. Help!

Hey Reco, you may have a hard time finding one for that price but best o' luck to answer some of your questions 100% not street legal so g1 makes no difference you would need a M even if they were and the only type of insurance I beleive you can get is theft insurance through home owners insurance. Since they don't come with an ownership and wouldn't pass Transportation Canada safety requirements for the road all your left with is private property with the owners consent. ( I had a police sergant at my shop looking at them yesterday and an O.P.P. officer there to day and thats what we disscused) "anyone caught on bike trails, streets, sidwalks roadways hi-ways could be charged"( In the officers own words.) Hope this help you a bit.

None of them were tested by the MTO...and none of the tires have DOT reg. numbers on them

So Nope...none of them are road worthy in the eyes of the Gov.

the only pockat bikes that I know of that are street legal are the YSR50 and 80's that type of bike. Not so sure that you would want to be on a road with one of those bikes when top speed is like 40 or 50km/h might be kind of scarey. they have no gears and not a great acceleration.

that's pretty funny! cause a buddy of mine has one as well and called the cops to find out about the legalaties of driving it on the road and he was told that it is 100% LEGAL to drive on the road. no insurance, no license, and no helmut. i have heard in the past that anything 49cc and under doesn't require a license. don't know if that's true or not. as for DOT numbers on the tires... do bicycle tires have DOT numbers? i've never looked. if they don't then i'd say you could get a ticket for driving that on the street as well. if the law enforcement wants to hand out tickets fairly that it is.

All motorized vehicles must be licensed to drive on the road. Pocketbikes are simply not licenseable; there are too many reasons to list why they will never be legal to ride on the road.

DOT tires are required on motorized vehicles that will be traveling on public roads. Bicycles don't qualify as they don't have a motor.

What the cop probably said: you do not need a motorcycle license ("M") for any motorcycle under 49cc. You can used your standard "G" license.

Most small scooters are 49cc and require plates, insurance and to be licensed. You just need a regular car license to take them out.

InCorrect.

Anything under 49CC, is not a motorized vehicle, but a "Power Assisted Vehicle", a motorized vehicle is 50CC and above, and it requires full insurance, plates etc. unless used offroad, where it still needs registration, it also needs insurance and a offroad plate if used on public roads.

I was organizing a group buy on these, but not enough interest....and to get one for that price will be extremely hard....but there was so much controversy about the law that it wasnt going anywhere...

If someone buys the scratched one, I can give it some nice custom paint for a small fee.
