try the least aggressive solvents first.

like Metyl Hydrate, Isopropyl, Mineral Spirits

then crack out the stronger stuff in QUICK uses...like don't leave it on the paint for more than a few seconds at a time

Tolulene, Acetone, Xylene would be the next ones to go for

DO NOT USE LACQUER THINNER

I've heard good about 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner, I'm gonna check out a few auto supply stores and see if they have it

I don't know if I feel comfortable with harsh solvents on my paint

I have some bug and tar remover too, that does squat

Better Acetone will pull paint off as well if you're not careful. I took some tape off my car the other day. I used a dull putty knife to gently scrape it off (being very careful not to dig a corner into the paint), then I finished up with some mineral spirits. Either way, whatever you do it will take a while. One thing you can do instead of rubbing it with mineral spirits is soaking it, just absolutely cover it with it. This will help soften up the glue and make it easier to scrape off.

So you used mineral spirits throughout or started with acetone?

Only mineral spirits and a dull putty knife with a rag. Didn't need acetone at all. I only use acetone as a last restort because you can take the paint off if you rub too hard, use too much, or use it too long. I usually manage to accomplish all three and take paint off :tounge:
