Insurance Question: Aftermarket Steering Wheel

Hey guys,

As the title states I'm wondering how my insurance would feel about me installing an Aftermarket steering wheel in my Honda. Will my insurance rates increase due to the non-airbag or will they even go as far as to drop me?

If anyone could give me some suggestions or any input at all it would be greatly appreciated.
I stumbled upon a great deal for a really nice Aftermarket steering wheel but I'm scared that it'll just cause problems.

Thanks in advance.

Harrold

since i've never seen anyone on here claim to be an insurance agent i'd just ask your agent about it.
i don't think its a good idea personally from a safety stand point. the car was designed with an airbag for a reason. i, myself, wouldn't want to not have one in the event of an accident.
safety frist JMO though

I personally wouldn't mind as my car doesn't come equipped with air bags. Basically, mines plug and play no adapter needed

Thanks for the Responses. Calling my insurance broker would probably be the best bet but I'm afraid they'll hassle me. Like ask for a pre inspection report and such. I never got one in the first place and I'm a little worried about my rates increasing due to them thinking I'm a street racer cause my cars modded.

You know how it is.

Just when you call in, just say you have a general question without saying who it is if youre worried about it.

your modded = your fucked, plain and simple.
in the event of a collision, when they find that you removed a safety related device from your vehicle they can opt not to cover you. How do i know? A friend of mines been through this problem. Also, if your modded for performance, depending on your policy, your also fucked! You have to report your mods, but then your insurance goes up....yep were fucked.

I'm not crazy modded though. I have a lip kit, Aftermarket Headlights, 16inch rims, Aftermarket Exhaust tip, Air intake, aftermarket mirrors, And some interior work.

None of this would really make my car any more likely to get into an accident. maybe I should call them and let them know. I dunno.

I've heard of companies that will not cover you with rims, suspension mods, exhaust mods-yours is fine it's just a tip, intake-if your hose is recirculating into the intake instead of the ricer vent filter they should be fine with it.

Insurance companies are bitches..call from a work phone and ask them about this shit like you're a new customer. don't give them your name.

My Sentra was heavily modded cosmetically and it was covered when it got vandalized. I didnt report anything to them in regards to modifications. They had to cover $6000 in repairs and didnt ask a single question. Most of the damage was to aftermarket parts.

Call your broker and ask. There not going to red flag you for asking a question.

how expensive is this steering wheel? chances are if you tell them about it, your rates will raise slightly, but if it does get stolen you will have to pay a deductable for around 500.... thats what my insurance broker told me, she said if it worth any more then 500 it might be something to worry about....
