Battery question...
In all this stupid cold weather my car wouldn't start this morning. When I got my rather large stereo installed a year or so ago the guys at Natural Sound told me that I may need to get my battery and / or alternator upgraded. Does anybody know what is likely the problem with my car? Will I need a new battery or alternator (if so, what size), just need a boost, etc?
And where is a good place to go in Cambridge for this stuff? Beverly Tire? Somebody please help!!! Need to solve this problem today... obviously! |

are you running a stock battery? I know that I run a small stereo, but I have 2 batteries(yellow and a red top) and my car doesn't lag in the starting department!! It however used to! I would go with Polska's idea for now, or upgrade your battery. Your car will thank you in the long run!!

So I should probably get a new battery before my alternator gets pooched?
Any suggestions on a place to get a new battery in Cambridge? Battery size recommendations please??? |

well the stock size battery will be fine, Go to Wal mart and get a deep cycle
They are much better for stereo applications and day to day use I found.YEL51R 500 Optima 51R that is your code for a red top batery I believe from Walmart.. Expect to pay around $200after taxes(give or take) ------------------ I got nothin, YET!! |

$200 for a battery, ouch! I was expecting like half that, lol.
So Wal-Mart is the best place to go? Does anyone know if Derek from Beverly does batteries, and if so, how much? |

^^^It's not just any battery my friend. Your typical battery is 70 to 120. But what they are referring too are the red top and yellow top batteries.........The are much more expensive for a reason.
A lot more powerful then a regular car battery. |

Yellow top batteries are more suited for stereo applications, they dont seem to have the same cold cranking power as the red tops. But any sealed optima battery will be a HUGE increase in cranking performance aswell as strong power for high current stereo applications. If you're gonna go big in the stereo department, you should go big in the charging/electrical system of your car.

Yellowtop loves deep cycling. It has been built to take a beating. Where as redtop has a lot of power to push out to get that car started on cold days!
