Um, well it shouldn't need an adapter I don't think cause I know all Cav's had the same hook-up. IE. the Z24 had a stock tach, minbe didn't. But if I wanted the dash with a tach all I had to do was plug one in to the wire for it. Get what I mean? I dunno if I'm right on if an aftermarket one will plug right in, but the hook-up is there so try it before you waste money on something you wont need.

Just have to find the signal from the endine for the tach. 95% of time located behind the cluster. Mine was located in engine bay.

LOL.....

you need to connect it to ignition (switched 12V), ground, parking lights (so it lights up with your other gauges) and the VSS wire (vehicle speed sensor)

heres what the12volt.com says for wiring:

Switched 12V+....Pink.................Ignition Switch Harness
Ground...............Use Chassis
Parking Lights.....Brown (+).........Driver's Kick Panel Main Harness
VSS Wire...........Green/White......Behind Passenger's PARK Light Black 32Pin Position 8

Why the hell would he hook it up to the VSS?.....what does that have to do with RPM

There will be a white wire coming off the ignition modual, undernieth the coils.....hook it to that, thats the stock Tach wire. Or pull a dash wiring diagram, and find out what wire it is on the connector (99% sure it's white). Or easier way.....pay $75 for a Z24 cluster, and plug N play

Yup. Thats the wire I was talking about, I'm pretty sure it's white also. And I would recomend the stock z24 cluster, cause drivin around with a big monster tach in a cavalier seems kinda dumb to me, especially since cavalier door locks can be opened with other cavaliers keys, and sometimes even random keys. Mines opened for like 4 other guys car keys who own cavaliers...security at GM quality.

that is the worst reasoning i have ever heard to not get a tach.

the fact that is a slow ass jbody is the only reason.

who cares if its a j-body?? maybe he doesnt have a stock tach? my 5spd jeep doesnt have one and it pisses me off and was thinking about installing a small 1 or get 2 sensors and a differerent gauge cluster from a different jeep so i could have a tach

i dont understand why some 5spd cars dont have a tach lol
