gym goers: gettin' ready for summer?

Well I know we have a few resident gym goers here and I thought I'd start something to see how everyone is doing for getting ready for summer and the shows for this year.
I, myself, am not a body buidlder by any means (too tall! lol) but this year I decided to take things a little more seriously and try to put on a good chunk of wieght for once. Previously I was a sprinter which really limited the weight I could carry (race weight was like 174~lbs) but since I'm no longer competing well it was time to try something different.
As of March 1 I decided to go consistantly and try to get myself to 210lbs to be able to cut back to 200ish for the summer. At March 1 I was 184lbs give or take a few ounces.
Today i weighed myself at the gym and surprisingly enough I'm up to 196.5lbs! HUGE gains IMO for less than a month. This is now officially the highest my weight has been ever. I'm pretty excited that I have put this much on this fast.

Anyway just wanted to see how others were progressing and whatnot.

Jason

Congrats on speeding through your goals- you are probably envied by many of the people on this board who are hardgainers lol

Height isn't an issue in the amateur shows :-P I'm always the tallest one on stage (so many midgets hahaha) I look a giraffe next to the little 4'11 and 5'0 girls. (I'm just under 5'7!)

My goals are the opposite of yours; I'm cutting not bulking. I had to take a year off of the show because of injury & health problems, and gained about 40lbs in the last year cuz I was unable to do any cardio (two fractured shins!) so I've got my work cut out for me this year! Luckily I still lifted weights so I did put on muscle, I just gotta take off the 20-30lbs of fat that accompanies it now!

I'm competing again this year- I'm training for a show in June , but because my legs are still iffy and I'm still having some health issues I can't train to the extremes that I used to, so I'm training with that show in mind, and if I feel I'm not ready by June, I'll just keep maintenence until my show in September.

As of now I'm down 12-15lbs, and working out 6 days a week with a three-day split for weights, cardio every day, active rest on my day off. I want to take it slow so I don't plateau, so I'm aiming for about 10lb/month (doing a 3-4 month prep)..I'm wicked excited to be back in the game!! (Though I will miss having boobs! These are kind of fun!)

Dont have money for the gym anymore, so I hit weights at home. Here are my workouts:

- 1 hour on Tony Little's POS Gazette (its all I've got for cardio, and I dont like running outside, too much pain on my knees)
- 30 minutes on a punching bad
- Benchpress
- Arm curl
- Shoulder lifts
- Situps

Thats all I've got/do . I just want to loose about 20lbs and gain a bit of muscle.

ive been having some awsome gains since december..

i belive that strenght training has alot to do with it..

i was at 156LBS around x mas

now im at 176LBS as of this morning at boxing

witch is just amazing.. my chest is protruding alot more, and my triceps are coming lower and more cut

sercret?

treat ur body like a fire place

u want that fire to grow.. u have to feed it.. .. bigger the fire.. more wood u have to put in it.. put the wrong food it in.. the fire will disipate..

what i eat now on a daily basis.. to what i used to eat is just insane.. how much money i have to spend on food a week is crazy.. yet im always hungry.. lol

im not getting visably bigger.. but my strength has increased ALOT..

thanks to medican balls, and wood choppers.. what u can do with punching bag , a medican ball . and kendow stick for strength is nuts

can't wait for summer

CivNick, I'm with you on the medicine balls- LOVE THOSE THINGS. Who knew a 12-lb ball could kick my ass ?

Don Kael: Have you ever researched Plyometrics? I think you'd enjoy it and it's a really wicked form of strength training that doesn't involve equipment- just your own bodystrength

I would Steph, but it seems most of my joints are pretty bad. Considering plyometric exercise usually requires strong joints and fast movement, I'm not able to take the pressure. It easier for me to do a bench press on a bench, the it is to do a push up with a clap in between (example).

It would probably be easier to do those exercises at a better weight/muscle ratio.

I've been doing really well, I started being serious 10 weekds ago today with my diet and my weight lifting and cardio.

Increased every excercise I do by 10-25%(which for some excercises is getting pretty heavy)
Can actually go for a descent run now, and oh ya, I've lost a hair over 25 pounds, with another 25ish to go.

Tell me about it. I've been going to the gym 5 days a week for 10 years and I've gained 15lbs. I'm constantly eating (every 2 hours) and the girls at work hate me. I'm stronger than many guys twice my size (I weight 140lbs and my 1 rep max is 230lbs bench press).

I recently looked in the mirror and questioned what I have accomplished in the last 10 years. So I went to see a nutritionist. Quick assessment was that I need more calories and carbs and fat but I'm doing okay with protein.

My new goal is 10lbs in 3 months.

I started about 8 weeks ago and i have lose 17 lbs so far with an other 25 lbs to go and hopefully one day be back to 14% body fat

Until now I've never been able to get over 190~ even with trying to get bigger, till now. seems like the extra 1500cal/day that i've added to my diet has really helped to bulk up a bit (or a lot i guess...lol)
Lots to go and then the fun cutting down stage at the end.. but for now i'm enjoying it. I really look forward to going to the gym which is a good feeling to be motivated to do.
