Anyone else tired of pussyfication of our youth?

I think you all know what I mean when I say this. Todays youth are so coddled and pussyfied. Overzealous parents who don't want their kids playing with anything that doesn't have 528956946509 saftey features on it, making sure thier kids wear more body armor then the Canadian forces just to go for a bike ride. Personally I find it retarded.

What happened to the days when we used to shoot .22s at the cottage? Played with toys so dangerous, no manufacturer would allow them on the market today. Climbing trees and falling out of them. We never had child proof doors or cabinets. For the most part we're all still here, we're all still fine.

Not to mention, what happened to getting some fresh air? I never had Nintendo, Sega or any of that shit. I never had 500 million channels. Basic cable was it, and that was just to watch the hockey games. We never had cellphones, or god forsaken text messaging. We never had MSN, or AIM, if we wanted to get a hold of one of our friends we went over to their house and banged on their door, or yelled for them to come out and play.

What ever happened to having to be disappointed? It seems as if there's an award for every fucking kid just so they don't feel like a loser. Fuck that! That's how you become a better person, learning to become better through disappointment.

The youth of today are a bunch of spoiled, whining malcontents. You know what though, it's all OUR fault! We constantly give them more then they need.

Discuss.

Todays society is anti-social. I guess we'll have to deal with it by wooing the younger generation women when we are 50. I love it.

Yah, because there's a huge abundance of them on here.

See that button that says "Back" on your browser window? That's all you had to do rather then interject with a useless comment. I was hoping some people on here would actually discuss the social aspect as to how our youth are being raised. Apparently I thought wrong...

I haven't paid enough attention to how this youth is being raised. All I know is 8 year olds have Blackberry's and wear thongs. It's gonna be interesting to see how they grow up.

I agree with khunt0012, the new generations are growing up to be completely spoiled.

Plus on top of all this, they are growing up with no respect!!!

You walk in a mall and can easily find kids telling off their parents because they aren't getting what they want. And the parents don't care, and don't do anything about it.

When I was a kid, if I said a single word back to my parents, I would have the back hand on my face.

Now kids grow up with attitude, and no respect!!!

LOL true.. and if you try that shit now, you'll go to jail and your kids will file for divorce from their parents. You will be portrayed as a monster, and CNN will talk about you for 3 weeks 24/7.

Man this generation is oblivious.

i used to play cops and robbers every day with my neighbours after school till the sun went down, then i would do my homework, watch tv, take a bath (yes baths were the shit!) and go to sleep

i was really content as a child and i think my neighbourhood supported that

also if i would say anything bad or do anything bad i'd feel the wooden spoon on my ass (gotta love european up-bringings)

well i turned out good at least lol

I hear you guys. The worst thing in the world my mom could possibly say to me was: "I'm gonna tell your Dad". That scared the shit outta me like no other. I don't care what people say either, I'll do the same to my kids too.

It is really true that kids today have no respect.

Ive got little scars all over my hands and arms and legs. My shins are so dented in. I can crack every joint in my body with the exception of one. All these things are from doing stuff as a kid.

We used to pull each other on GT snow racers on gravel behind bikes. We used to get 25 kids with pellet guns and run amuck in the woods for 8 hour stints. We used to ride our dirt bikes for so long that we would run out of gas and have to push them 10km back home.

Climbing trees, going on random adventures, going fishing, making forts, tree houses and all that stuff dont exist anymore. I had 3 channels on my TV when I was a kid. Now my dad has an amazing 20, but still most of it is fuzzy or blurry. Thats what I grew up with.

When I was 6 years old I started to drive the tractor with my dad. By 7 I was driving it on my own. Im not talking lawn mower Im talking full on tractor with front end loader. Ive had like 8 field cars which I drove from age 8-15 just smashing into shit in the fields.

We need to give all kids a sling shot, $5 and set them out on a friday and tell them to be back by Sunday.

I hate when I see kids talking back to thier parents, hit them for fuck sakes..If a kid gets away with something once, they will get away with it everytime.

When I was like...7-8...ya that's about right, grade 3-4 or so. I found an abandon diesel refuelling station for an old train track by my house in the country. I climbed the biggest silo that was there, probably like 70-80 feet. On the side of it, those ladder systems that are welded onto the side of it. No harness, no cage around me. Just me (like 8 years old), the silo, and dirt 70 feet below me. I wasn't scared, I never though, gee, I better get my safety gear on. I was a kid, being a kid, doing what kids do. If kids don't get hurt, how do they learn not to do something.

I learned not to ride my bike down step hills at age 6, AFTER I fell and basically destroyed my skin on my knees and shoulder (I got threated as 3rd degree burns at the hospital) and I got 8 stitches in my eyebrow. I still never wore my helmet afterwards.

I did what kids are suppose to do, live life and learn from it!

I'm gonna try my best to raise my kids with a more old school european attitude. Teach them that hard work, respect and perserverance is the only way to get anything in life, being smart (not intelligent, but smart) helps alot too.

Exactly! Thats why my kid is gunna eat dirt! They've been discussing this topic in the news a lot lately. And well, if my kids sucky falls on the floor I pick the cat hair off and give it back. Don't need to sterilize the damn thing. If it looks real grose stick it in my mouth first then give to him.

Haha, ya my parents did that, and when I was thru teething (chewing purposes), they cut the ends off and it would go flat and it wouldn't suck right, so I threw it away.
