Auto-responder help!

Hey guys, I'm not to sure who has experience doing website stuff, but I have a friend who works in real estate and has put me incharge of maintaining his website, but there are a few things he's asked that I have about a month and a half to figure out also. The most important thing is an autoresponder which he wants built into it so that he and anyone else that's at his office can access a list of e-mail addresses that are categorized and can send out pre-written e-mails. I know that I can get windows based apps that do it easily, but he wants people to be able to enter their e-mail addresses on the website with what they are looking for and he can put them into categories from there and doesn't want to have to be at the office to send out these e-mails. If anyone has any good ideas, let me know!!!

Thanks!

I already replied on PSA... But I copy my reply to here...

Are you trying to have a page where a potential customer enters their email address and picks what they want info on, and then based on that it emails them a preset email based on what they're asking about???

Thats EASY to do in PHP.. Like it would take me about 10 minutes tops.

If you have any experience in PHP, its really not too hard...

Basically, you'll need an HTML form with a text field for their email address, and other text fields for whatever other info you need. Then you'll need a drop down menu for what they want information on.

From there, you'll need the PHP file which is the 'action' for the HTML form.. In that you'll have to get the POST data from the form, and then do some text manipulation to combine the users data with the pre-defined emails(ie making it say "Dear *users name*", etc..) and then use the PHP mail() function to send out the email to the address they specified.

If thats over your head, shoot me a PM... We can work something out.

Hey, nothing as of yet... I have a few other things sorted out that he needs, but I haven't had a chance to try it out. I will PM you in a few days when I have time to learn this stuff, but I just got back from work in Cambridge and have had no computer for the past few days! I will also need to get the specifications that he would like to have so that things can be filtered properly.

^^ If you get the specs, and the pre-written emails, it would seriously take me about 10 minutes to do this. So if you're stuck, let me know.

Would it also store the information incase he needed to pull their e-mails for more responses at a later date?
