XBOX 360 "Unable To Read Disc" Error Help Needed

Im having problems with my XBOX 360. I was playing Halo 3 today for a little while, like 30min or so, and then turned it off to make something to eat and watch TV. I came back to turn it on and it said "Unable to read disc". Confused because I just played it a little bit ago I removed the disc and cleaned it and put it back in. Same problem.

I put in Forza 2, Evan Almighty, Need For Speed Pro Street and Assassin's Creed and all of them came up as "Unable to read disc" this is very frusterating becuase its not even making the sounds like its trying to read the disc. It just powers on, makes no noises other than the fan and thats it.

I read online that it might be from it being standing up and dust sitting weird in there so I cleaned it out with air and set it on its side and it still has the same problem. There are no red rings or anything like that, I can sign in and do everything else fine, but I am unable to play any games.

If anyone knows what the problem is or has any sugestions I would appriciate it. This is a fairly new unit, about 8 months old and its really frusterating.

Thanks

No its way beyond that. The DVD ROM isnt even spooling up and reading discs. Looks like I need someone to replace the DVD ROM for me.

You can do the towel trick on that though and solve the problem.

Whenever you talk about fixing electronics with a towel, at least called it "solve" and not solve.

Mike, it's a common problem just like the RROD syndrome.

Microsoft recognizes it and will recplace it under warrenty.

Bingo. They'll ship you a newer 360 with a different chipset.

I always get the, "To play this disc, please put it into an Xbox 360 console" which is weird cuz it clearly is. anyways, i normally restart the console and it works fine...

heres a fun fact

I bought my console beginning of from a guy who bought it a couple months before he sold it to me. my friend JUST bought a new 360 and the MFR date is only 3 months 3 days after mine...

Crix, if he wants someone to replace the drive and it doesn't have to be soldered in, I can do it... Just have him cover my gas, and I'll come to your place.

Its beyond a simple replacement. I can do it if that was the case, but the DVD ROM has to be flashed to match the code on the XBOX. Each 360 is unique and if you do it wrong it will brick the DVD ROM.

I still suggest trying an external USB DVD ROM then .
