Thumbs up Possible Cruise Night This Summer. They Want VM's Oppinions

I got a phone call from my brother this afternoon. He asked me if I knew of anybody with modified cars, muscle cars, classic cars, lowriders, mini trucks or hot rods. I was like "Ya I do." He started to ask me a lot of questions regarding holding a cruise night. My experiences with it in the past. Some events that Ive attended over the years and other things of that nature. Curious as to why he was asking me about this, since he has no interest in cars at all, I asked him.

He works for Jamesway Construction group and they own the property and buildings where the Fisher Hallman and Ottawa Tim Hortons/Wendy's/Short Stop/Etc are located. They built in there recently a large building and extended out the parking lot.

Jamesway would like to do something to support the Rotary club and possibly other charities in the area and the idea of a cruise night was brought up and this area was given as an option. They decided on the area due to the fact that pretty much on any given night there are people there hanging out infront of their cars anyways and might aswell bring them all together for a good cause.

So he asked me to come on here and see what you guys would think about a cruise night in that plaza. What you would like to see. How would you feel about having a 50/50 draw or a donation box or something like that so that Jamesway would be able to raise money for the Rotary Club.

What ideas would you have in mind? Also understand that this is not going to be orientated totally towards people like the majority of VMers. I mean that there are not just going to be young people there with newer modified cars. This is going to include and comingle all groups and genres from Hayabusa to Hyundai.

Is there anything you would like to see happen? Do you want a weekly trophy or award given out? What insentive would you as a car owner like so that you would come out each week to support the Rotary Club and Jamesway in their fund raising efforts? What do you know of that has not worked in the past?

Give your honest oppinions. This is most likely going to start in the next 2 months or so and Monday night seems to be the night that they would like to be doing it, but that, like everything else, is still up in the air at the moment.

i think the 50/50 draw for a fundraiser is a good idea... but make it manditory for people to enter. this will do TWO things. one weed out the douchebags who would normally just show up and be assholes (becuase they are too cheap) and it will be a HUGE fundraiser for the cause. Even $1 would add up quick as i'm sure lots of cars will show up as always happens with VM meets. I'd still have a donations box as well so people can ither buy more tickets or just donate to the cause. Us plus other organizations (KWmusclecar etc etc) would be a good turnout of different cars and would bring the different crowds together. For the charity car show last weekend the KWmusclecar club and those who showed up raised i think it was over $700... thats huge commitment from the limited # of people that were really there...

I think the only thing I would like to see happen as a car owner/enthusiest is consistancy.

If this happens then it would be nice if it was an ongoing thing......so that it will be like a weekly meet for us.

It good time and a consistant time that we can look forward to every week to get together...

i think this is an awsome idea, however im not sure how well the "older" crowd with there muscle cars would react to a bunch of ricers, cuz we all know that 3/4 of vm are ricers.
love the idea and totally would go every week.

I have a huge fart can....

Factory wing....

my kit was primered.....but it's getting painted now......I had reasons for that, as I am sure everyone else out there who has one does....

I have a loud stereo but only really push it at compititions.....

I don't like to rev my engine - it's stupid.......

and I don't do burn outs, I like my tires to last.....

So since I don't meet all the criteria.......am I a ricer, a partial ricer, or what?

lol....ok, sounds good!!!

anyways, back on topic.......Mike, this is a good idea.......I also agree with Rough for having a mandatory amount we pay as a donation every week.

It will help raise money and keep people away that are just there to show off.

Bang on. I'll keep checking this thread for details. Us KWMuscle.com boys would be over and we're comprised of everything from Z24 Cavaliers to 960 horsepower Corvettes.

If it's for a good cause I'm there.

What I was thinking was to have people pay a buck or two to enter the car show and they would get one 50/50 ticket and then each one from there would pay $1 for each additional 50/50 that they wanted to get. Then also have a car there like a hot rod or a nice car that would be at each show with a donation available for anyone else who wanted to just put into that each time. They were also talking about people or companies donating little things for each meet and using the 50/50 tickets given from the gate when you entered to draw for those prizes so that people stay throughout the whole show. It also gives people a good time to leave when that give away is over. They are still milling over ideas and nothing has been set in stone.

I love 50/50 tickets! gives people a "wifm" (that's cheesy office space talk for what's in it for me)

you have a chance at making some loot and the charity gauranteed makes money.

I'm going to have to look into the rotory club.. who do they help, what is the organization for. (I'm suprised I don't know yet... I'm sure internet search will help)

Hope money raised in this manner will not be used as a tax deductable donation by the Jamesway Construction group as the money is not out of the business coffers.

I Certainly support charities in our region. I already support united way and heart and stroke foundation (grandpa=heart, grandma=stroke... miss you)

I like the idea of manditory entry that also gives you a 50/50 ticket. Very nice idea.

Something I would like to see happen this year is a charity poker run perhaps?.. maybe say.. here to Niagara Falls or something, where you get a card at the start..... 3 cards somewhere along the way.. and your final card in Niagara.

Just a fun excuse for a cruise/charity event.

^Right.........

Kidding chill out before you blow a head gasket. I personally love 50/50 draws. Super fun and always a chance of winning. Maybe some prizes would be cool too. Like "door prizes" or something. People love winning stuff even if it sucks.
