Insuring your Modified Vehicle in Ontario (Important)

THis is a good read some one posted on GenerationDUB.com
This acctually happed to a member on there:

Quote:
I just got back from my State Farm agents office and after a 2hour conversation I now have a slightly better understanding of what is going on. In my case my agent is going to send in the necessary information to get a quote from their Facility carrier who is ING. She apologized profusely for the inconvenience and told me if it were up to her she would keep the status quo, however this is coming down from head office and their hands are tied. I honestly believe her because we have had an excellent professional relationship over the last 5 years that I have dealt with them. She is really on my side and will do everything she can for me.

All this being said the fact remains that if you have a modified car in the province of Ontario YOU WILL NOT GET INSURANCE unless it is through Facility. I called 52 brokers/agents this morning and not one of them will touch my car with the exception of ING's Facility.

EVERYONE BEWARE!!!! If you do not disclose to your insurance company that you have any modifications to your car your insurance is absolutely useless. So let's say you get into an accident, whether it's your fault or not, if you have any modifications on your car that you did not disclose to your insurance company they do not have to pay you. Period. Same goes for liability. If you hit someone or seriously injure someone and you did not disclose mods, you will be paying that person for the rest of your life.

Listen, most of us here are mature adults with family's and responsibilities. Don't take the chance, make sure you know where you stand on this issue with your insurance company.

I'll keep everyone abreast of the situation as it unfolds.

Oh BTW. modifications include everything including, lowering suspension, taillights, muffler, CAI, turbo, NOS, blower, racing seats, big brakes, aftermarket wheels etc etc.

Make sure you know where you stand with your particular mods with your company. I cannot emphasize this enough.

Well I just got the call from my agent. Seems my insurance of my summer car will now more than triple. I went from paying $766/year to $2700 on facility.

Now keep in mind that that is with $500dedect on collision and $1000 on comp. and my perfect driving and claims record. Also the car is valued at $40k. However even raising the deductables or lowering the value does not make a significant difference in rate

And some good replies:

Quote:
Saying sorry about the words and context of my following message I don' mean to offend.

INSURANCE AGENTS ARE FUCKING JEWISH!!!!!!!!! They are allowed to break every known law binding contract on earth. It is a giant money scam for fucking RICH people richer. I HATE YOU INSURANCE. Here is the deal and why. My mom insured 2 cars hers and my sisters. My sister was the main driver on one and my mom on the other. The insurance company knew about this and was okay with it. My sister hits a guy (guy not car) YES all her fault guess who the insurance company blames. That is right my mom she gets her insurance canceled after 10 day of renewing!!! Now according to Canadian law this is illegal because it was documented and signed by both parties and they are just voiding a 1 year agreed contract? Yet they get away with it and the FUCKING PUSSY ASS CANADIAN GOVERNMENT DOES SHIT. Now here is the funny thing!!! My sister has a clean record until next year when she goes to court for hitting the guy. So when she gets a quote for a car she gets a lower rate then mine and I have one fucking ticket for 10 over, HOW THE FUCK DOES THIS HAPPEN??? Bottom line is INSURANCE is a giant scam.

Now with the whole souped up car deal. How the fuck can a retuned suspension, better brakes and better tires make you a more dangerous driver? They should look at the real facts and YOUR PERSONAL DRIVING RECORD before making you pay millions because you are 17- 25 and have a penis. The stats they use are only right because they make them more money. I fucking hate you insurance. And what the FUCK I drive 70 000 kms a year I should be credited for driving 70 000kms a year with out any accidents BUUUUUUUUTTTTT no the base it yearly? So what I drive 2 km a year no crashes and that makes me an amazing driver?? WTF INSURANCE! I FUCKING HATE YOU. Also isn’t it against the law / charted of rights to discriminate against sex, age, race, religion, blab la BAL lb yet the do it every fucking DAY. RACEST SEXEST MOTHER FUCKING BITCHES. This is why I feel like tracking down every head man of an insurance company and jumping in front of there moving vehicle, which is most likely a 911 GT2 / Ferrari 360 spider what we are paying for you cheap ass mother fuckers.

Lastly HOW THE HELL IS SPEEDING A DAMN RISK? If I am the only one on a 4 lane highway at 3 am how dangerous am I? They should look at the real problem, with the people they allow to drive. Blind people get there damn driver’s licenses for god sakes. If was drunk driving on a country road at 3 am I most likely would get the brush off by the cop ( NEVER FUCKING DRINK and DRIVE I HATE YOU PEOPLE THE MOST). Travailing on the 407, 3am @ 200kmh they would come up to the car gun in hand demanding my hand up? Bottom line, FUCK YOU INSURANCE I GOING TO GET YOU ONE DAY! FRUAD IS MY MIDDLE NAME!

ANd how hte hell can insurance give differant rates? you pay 150 with use or 250 with them ? ? BUNCH OF SHIT I HATE YOU MONEY HUNGRY WHORES.

Sorry for the words, spelling and grammar I know it is atrocious. I really touchy about this one can't you tell This is my $0.02

damn that really sucks! They are a bunch of assholes to say the least. My car is pretty much stock but I phoned my insurance company (Pilot) the other week to see if I would have any problems with my car having what it does and they say for now it should be okay. I wanted to make sure that I am still covered if anything happens and they said yes for now. I told them if anything changes to give me a call immediatly (will that happen? Probably not!). I have been with Pilot for about a year now and previous to that I was with Belair Direct. My question to you insurance companies (which has pretty much already been stated but I will say it again) is how our cheap 4 cyl (most of us) modified cars anymore of a high risk than someones Trans AM or Stang? Why is it us that get singled out? Is that fair? Of course not!

WOW

In reading that I REALLY REALLY LIKE MY INSURANCE COMPANY!!!!

We have all 4 of cours insured through them and they are amazing. When my stereos were stolen in less then 2 months of each other, they didn't ask any questions. And THEY didn't even raise my insurance since I had all the required info, and they even had it repaired in a day. They actually found a place that could have it back to me thew following day. And if I mod my car, its all good with them as longs as i report the part and receipt date and part srial number blah blah blah!!!

THEIIIRR GRRRRRRRRRREAT!!!

So i'm basically paying for nothing, but i can't find any other place this cheap!!.
If they drop me i will defeintly consider driving without insurance.

If you know they will just void it, just drive with strictly fire/theft. Pay like $20 per month. Cops can't tell what coverage you have when they pull you over. You will be fucked regardless in the event of a crash, so may as well pay less now.

^^ This is true, happened to one of my buddys.

I would recommend my insurance company to you guys, but like I said before they try and stay away from younger drivers. I only got insured through them because I had been a part time driver under my parents name for a couple years and have a FLAWLESS (no lie) driving record!!!

Oh and another thing, when its time to lower your rate they take there sweet time, you have to call them and tell them or else they dont do it. SOB's
Insurance is a huge problem in this county, i've often though of starting up my own company. If they can break so many rules, fuck you must be able to start one up EASY. They just scam you for money because they know theres nothing you can do about it. You drive without it you get in shit with the cops

I have been with my echelon insurance for a year.I have talked to my broker quite a few times about this.I have 3 cars that are far from stock and they have no problems with this.I don't have collision on the cars though just fire and theft. The only shitty part is that they will only cover $1500 worth of upgrades if your car gets stolen or something goes missing. If you guys want insurance call echelon and ask for jarred chartland he will hook you up.

It is, but they give you pretty good rates with alot of mods, so I'd like to see what they give someone with less mods. Plus, if what I've been hearing more and more is true, I've got more than enough to be screwed over in an accident. Exhaust, CAI, and coilovers, all 3 were listed as nono's in the first post, and I've heard similar stories elsewhere.

I have never had anyproblems. My broker knows what I have done to my vehicles and they have no problem with this.I told him that some of my buddies were having problems with insurance and he said to tell them to call him.But my insurance is still not that cheap for having no collision.Right now I am paying $315 a month for my eclipse gsx and my 96 sunfire gt that is stock.
I will post the # for everyone tommorow and Will I'll email you the #.
