think this will pass safety?

so my car has a crack in the windshield, this is the only thing i have found so far that i'm not sure will pass. so if any of you actually know (don't just take a guess) or if any of you are mechanics who do safeties let me know if this would pass or not. i know the rule of thumb is if its in the wiper's path then it fails, but this doesn't impare my sight of anything other than the hood and fender as you can see from this shot right from eye level in the driver's seat:

It really depends where you take it

some mechanics will let it slide and some won't
I had my car pass with the same sort of crack

legally you dont need to change it until the crack has met two sides or it impaires your vision. It doesn't impaire the vision directly but it is rather large. I think its all on opinion

fail. Or find a shop that is willing to overlook the minor flaw. Apple cant fix anything larger then a quarter. At least that's what they told me.

that fails
cracks and large blemishes that obstruct the drivers view in the windshield are not acceptable if they are within the range of the wipers

K my fathers the shop foreman here at North End Nissan. I have asked him if he would sign this, as I don’t have my license. He stated that it is possible to pass the DOT in this case.

RE: Inspection requirements and performance standards for commercial vehicles and motor vehicles except motorcycles.

1-7(h) there shall be no star, stone chip or crack in the area of the windshield swept by the driver's wiper blade, that may interfere with the driver's vision;

Some people are right if you have a stone chip, star or crack in the driver’s wiper path then it fails. But in this case the crack in the window has not reached that part as of yet.

most wouldn't but its ok in the book. so... meh.

his question was "will it pass"

answer is yes it will but find a guy to sign for it. as this is simply an opinion situation and most tech would just say replace the windsheild.

Any reputable shop will not pass that, when I had my first civic, I went to get a safety, I had to fill a stone chip before it would pass, its silly to think it will pass with a huge crack like that...

Quote:

You cannot repair a crack that big, they can repair stone chips, stone chips that have started to crack a bit, not one as big as this...yes it is cheap 50-60$

JUST REPLACE IT, its safer for you and everyone else in the vehilcle...

nice crack!

now all you need is a set of 36" rims that spin and a nice side swipe style dent in the side of the car and some Michigan plates..
