Careless ticket

Hey guys,
My dad had an accident a couple months ago, his fault on the 401. Rear ended a lady, then she hit someone in front of her.

Anyway, he had a long day, was tired, took his eyes off the road for a second, boom. He's 58, been driving for over 40 years with no tickets or accidents.

He has a court date tomorrow. Can you guys give some suggestions of what he should do? I mean, he would like to get his careless driving charge reduced. He doesn't expect to be let off, he just wants to get it lowered so he's not raped on insurance.

That's shitty. I can't see him getting overly raped with 40 years no tickets or accidents. Prolly get raised a little bit if he can't get any reduction in charges.

Hopefully things go well!

I'm sure he'll get it droped to a lower charge. It's not like he drives a modified import or anything. That fact alone puts him miles ahead.

Nine times out of ten the majority of people who talk shit down here don't even have any of the crap they talk about on their car. I drive an 8 year old domestic and barely give two shits about it. I beat the hell out of it and it begs for more, just like your girlfriend. Go ahead, cut me off. I dare ya.

Ya but what should his approach be in court? Should he be like "I would like a lower charge" or should he just STFU and stand there or what?

Just get him to say exactly what you said, THat he is sorry, it was an innocent accident and that he does have a clean record. You understand that he cant be let totally off but that you feel he doesnt deserve his record to be totally ruined by one small mistake...lol just a thought...sorry for rambling...

Good luck with everything!

still waiting on my careless report. What i did was got a company called points to take care of it. It was $600 they do all the paperwork and go to court for you. If the charge stands you get half the money back.

Just go in........and plead guilty to a lesser charge. Points don't matter.........careless is a major ticket while following too closely is a minor ticket. Go for the minor ticket

Was that in the actual courtroom or did he speak with the Crown first?

I'd guess crown - and yes they will usually drop down a charge just to get you to shut up and pay.

They dropped my careless to speeding all you do is go in and you hardly have to say anything....
