Importing vehicles from outside of the US
For those of you who have imported vehicles older than 15 years old from outside of North America, once the vehicle has been imported into Canada, what was required to get it licensed in Ontario?
------------------ This is where you type a bunch of shit about how awesome your car is. FACT: It's been scientifically proven that the more shit you write in here the less cool your car is. Nine times out of ten the majority of people who talk shit down here don't even have any of the crap they talk about on their car. I drive an 8 year old domestic and barely give two shits about it. I beat the hell out of it and it begs for more, just like your girlfriend. Go ahead, cut me off. I dare ya. |

My un educated guess would be, custom fees, freight fees, registration of that vehicle into ur name. Best bet i think is to look back in the cars for sale, find the guy that had those two RHD skylines and ask him

There is a way it can be done. Alex in waterloo has a 98 ITR from Japan how did that get here. although he baught it from the due in cambridge who i'm not sure imported it then
Someone told me that you bring the acr over here, and you plate it but have a registered owner in Japan. Not sure if this works or not. I don't think it does. John |

The jist of it is that it must comply with US or Canadian laws/regs but it can NOT be modified to conform it has to be built like that from the factory. The rule on vehicles 15 years old or older is that they can be modified to conform with the laws/regs at the time of manufacture. The vehicle still needs a letter of compliance from the manufacturer. If the vehicle was originally built for the Canadian and was sold in Canada before going to it's current location you will not have to modify or pay any fees (besides taxes on the purchase). The best bet is to call RIV or Transport Canada and ask the questions there, they are usually very good with their answers. |
