The best radar detector is your eyes. You can pick out a cop trap a lot of the times if you just pay attention.

Yes. And a combination of your eyes and a detector is even better.

NO, you could buy one that I may be able to find for you from about 1998 or so and then have your current one with all the "undetectable" technology. WHen pulled over just give up the old one.

thats a big negative. The cop will test the detector with his spectre to see if he's got the one he detected in the first place. Different detectors will give out different signals. Cruisers equipped with spectre are usually operated by cops who know what they're doing. The unit that took my detector was a spectre 2 undercover car based in cornwall. When he got mine, he showed me his passenger seat area and he must have had about 20 detectors there, all confiscated that day.

2. the testing was convienient, it was at my school.
3. i don't have the cash for ATS, and don't want to fail.
4. why not, see where they offer? i've already put about a year into the RCMP recruiting process..

I'm tired of people posting false information. Ontario Demerit Point system:

http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dan...er/demerit.htm

As I have stated above once already, a radar detector ticket is a NON moving violation, just like a no front place ticket. And those don't affect your insurance.

sorry, but the info was in a handout that I picked up at the collision reporting centre on maple grove. Not sure why it isn't listed on the site but if you do a search for "speed measuring warning device" on the site posted above, you will find this (for some reason whenever I try to open it IE shuts down, otherwise I would've found the paragraph)

http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/saf...3/foreword.htm

You actually lose 3 points for it

edit, got it to work, from that link

2. Transit & Road Safety Bill

The Transit and Road Safety Bill was introduced in the Legislature on February 21, 2005, by the Minister of Transportation. It proposes wide-ranging changes that will improve safety and reduce congestion on roads and highways across the province.

The Transit and Road Safety Bill would, if passed:

Improve safety on local roads by increasing fines and harmonizing demerit points for drivers who do not stop or yield the right of way at pedestrian and school crossings;
Enhance safety by requiring motorists to remain stopped at school crossings;
Improve safety for construction workers by doubling speeding fines in construction zones, allowing municipal staff to set speed limits in municipal construction zones, and creating an offence for disobeying a traffic slow and stop sign;
Increase safety and reduce congestion by allowing Variable Speed Limit systems to suit road and weather conditions;
Increase fines for speeding 30-34 km/h over the posted speed limit and allow the courts to impose longer driver licence suspensions for convicted repeat offenders who speed 50 km/h over the limit;
Allow all municipalities to set 30 km/h speed limit in areas where traffic calming measures are in place (e.g., speed bumps);
Create an offence for flying vehicle parts;
Improve daily commercial vehicle inspection standards;
***Introduce demerit points for using speed measuring warning devices; ***
Clear the way to designate and enforce High Occupancy Vehicle lanes to encourage carpooling;
Provide the authority to designate Bus Bypass Shoulders;
Allow land to be dedicated for new carpool lots and transit stations during planning stages;
Improve transit commute times by allowing transit vehicles to pre-empt traffic signals to lengthen a green light or change a red light to green sooner;
Introduce higher penalties for the fraudulent use of a driver's licence;
Allow for the use of studded tires by residents of Northern Ontario;
Allow for faster clearance of highway incidents by clarifying police powers to remove, or order the removal of vehicles and debris;
Provide authority to gather data through roadside surveys in support of transportation planning;
Create an offence for taxi/limousine owners, arrangers and drivers to carry passengers without required permits/licences;
Recover the cost of demerit point interviews from drivers who must attend these interviews due to poor driving behaviour; and
Make enhancements to driver education.

hmm...I saw your leaflet scan, I haven't heard of it and no where does it say on the MTO site that the radar device is a demerit point offence. I also searched on bill 169 which was supposed to include this amendment but once again came up empty. At this point i'm unsure which is correct, the leaflet or the website.

Platinum, you are actually wrong this time, sorry. I originally agreed with you, but wasn't 100% sure, so i did some research...(i was also looking in a 2005 HTA, that was printed before the law was changed...)

here is what i found...

http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/DBLaws/S...5/R05596_e.htm

Demerits are outlined under O-Reg 339/94...which can be found here

http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/DBLaws/R...h/940339_e.htm

here is a little tidbit of information, taken from "ontariospeeding.com/speeding%20tickets-radar%20detectors.html"

"A police officer upon reasonable groundscan search any motor vehicle for a radar detector without a warrant. If you put the dector on your person, the officer can consider arresting the driver for obstructing a police officer in the performance of his duties. As an incident to arrest the officer can then search your person, and locate the detector."

edit: Platinum, you posted at the same time i did, well mine was 28 min apart, but i clicked reply before you posted, and forgot about it...

and on the CB note, techincally, those will grab you a ticket too since by law you need a lisence to operate one! Cops just havn't been pushy on the subject because so many truck drivers use them. BUt trust me they listen to chn 19 all the time and if they hear people giving locations out and what not and the have a good idea who's doing it, they will pull you over and ticket you!!

Hey if ya wanna move the RCMP is the right police service for you... but as far as the testing fees go...they can all be claimed at the end of the year. If ya fail, whats the worst that will happen? do it again? I wish you luck with the RCMP.
