I was caught once for speeding once, and the cop plain out told me "i hate giving you guys tickets, you already pay enough for insurance as it is, slow down, heres a break, have a nice day"
but some do enjoy giving tickets. Its called being on a power trip and please don't tell me you haven't seen that before.

Good to hear Jim.

I had a cop threaten to remove my plates because my wheels were too big.

i agree, there are some of them on power trips, but for the most part, they are normal human beings, who have a life, pay insurance rates, or have kids who pay insurance rates. they know how it feels to be ticketed, as i'm sure 99.9% of them have gotten tickets (maybe before they were cops).

yes, a few bad apples ruin the bunch.

Yes they do. I know.

They don't have a "set" limit that the "have" to write, but as someone already mentioned, it is FROWNED upon to not write any traffic tickets when you're on traffic duty for 12 shifts a month and you didn't hand out one ticket. Will they fire you for it? Probably not, but think of it this way, you work at a unionized company and read the paper on the shitter for 2 hours every day and everyone else in the company finds out. Think that's going to get you a promotion any time soon? Might not get you fired due to circumstances under your employment agreement (would probably get you written up though...), but you're sure as shit not going to look good doing that.

Same sort of thing. Sure, don't write any tickets and let everyone off. Make yourself look like crap on purpose. Would you or anyone else want to do that in their job?

Bottom line is tickets provide income. Income is good. When you get let off it's because the cop chose NOT to write you a ticket and was able to let you off probably because he'd written tickets for 3 other people just before you so he could "afford" to be nice. I haven't met a cop yet that LOVED to give people the crap tickets on purpose. Shit, I got a ticket for failure to renew my license plate sticker 3 days AFTER my birthday which was on the first of the month! Did I think he was a jerk for writing me the ticket, yeah sort of, but I also understood why he probably had to write it for me. I was unlucky that time. Was pulled over for the same thing a couple years ago and I was let off 2 months after it was overdue.

Now, I renew it well before. Learned my lesson and have an extra $110.00 in my pocket every year.

Ah yes and there is never a shift that goes by in a major city centre where they couldn't find a ticket to write. I wonder what the honest percentage is of people let off when being pulled over for minor traffic infractions to the people that actually get tickets.

All this being said, it still sucks to get a ticket.

If you want to speak literally about it sure, you're correct.

All I'm saying is a "quota" does exist because no cop, not one, is going to go month after month not writing the acceptable amount of routine traffic tickets.

So in a literal sense, yes there is no carved in stone rule saying officer "x" has to write "y" amount of tickets each month.

There is however an acceptable median in which you must be above each month in order to not bring negative results back on yourself. This would be the, "What the hell were you doing out there on traffic duty this month Officer Smith?! You're telling me you couldn't find at least "y" amount of tickets to write?"

I don't know the exact amount, but I would guess it is specific to what city/area the officers are operating in.

"i can't make people break the law"

thats my answer. we could go on forever, but like you said, there is no quota set out by a police force.

Every officer will always write tickets each month. They will also let a bunch of people off. Good luck with the lottery, the odds are better than the Super 7, I'll guarantee you that.

The lottery thing is more true then ever, it's all about who pulls you over..........

I have a friend of mine that got caught doing 160 on the 401. The cop just said; "I was once your age with a fast car, just slow down and don't do it again..."

It's all about luck gentlemen...
