Letter I'm sending out to Waterloo Regional Police, OPP, etc

Quote:
Dear Sir,

Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Nick Anghel and I am the administrator of a local car club called Vital Motion. We are a group of car enthusiasts based in the Waterloo region with members from Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph, Brantford and all the smaller towns in between.

We heard about the modified car “blitz” the Waterloo Regional Police is organizing every Friday night against the modified cars in the region. We do realize that Street Racing is a very important issue right now, and that it endangers not only the people doing it, but also pedestrians and civilians and we agree that it must be stopped. Our club does not allow its members to conduct any kind of racing on the streets and we regularly organize Track Days to keep racing where is supposed to be done. We are also organizing a charity car wash called “Tuners Against Street Racers”,
(visit http://carwash.vitalmotion.net for more information) in memory of the young kids that were recently killed in our region due to street racing related incidents.

Our members have put a great deal of time, effort and money in the cars they drive and most took the time to research what can be had on the road and what is illegal. Our opinion is that the HTA is too vague on some topics and even after discussion things over with different officers we still have no real clarification on some issues such as aftermarket exhaust, lowering, air intakes, forced induction and nitrous oxide.

We also believe that you are targeting the wrong audience, because most of the recent street racing accidents involved family sedans or cars that did not have any aftermarket modifications. They were often not even owned by the driver and belong to their parents. Most tuners will not take the risk of crashing their investment and drive according to the law.

I politely ask that on Friday nights instead of conducting the blitz you take the time to have meetings with our members and other tuners in the region and educate us on what the law allows and what it does not. We should not be afraid to drive our cars and have to be forced to drive a different car on Friday just to avoid getting pulled over. Most of us are students or full time employees and we need our cars to travel to work or school daily and can not afford a second car. We believe a program such as P.A.C.E.R. would be much more effective then the program you have initiated now. We have already contacted personal from P.A.C.E.R. asking them to come to this region.

On behalf of our 300+ members I want to thank you for taking the time to read this letter and ask you to let me know if anything could be organized to solve these issues. Please understand that this is our hobby (for some our life), and we are upset because of the negative attention we are getting, the stereotyping and unfair treatment we daily receive from Insurance companies, Officers of the law, media and other drivers.

Sincerely

Nick Anghel

I hope is good enough.

Amazing!

Great job!!!

Are they pretty good at replying to their mail, or should a question or two be asked to increase the likelihood of a response?

Depending on the response maybe VM could consider sending a copy of your letter and the response to the local papers and radio stations as an official press release.

Something like this has worked for me in the past.

Not yet, i was waiting for everyone response and grammer corrections.
I'm also doing another version of that will be e-mailed to all the local papers/news stations.

I think that if all of you send out letters as well we have a bigger impact.

For the letters to be effective thay have to be professionally written like yours.

Who else should the letters be sent to? MPP?

I think its good, but you dont relay the point you want to make. They are just going to send back saying you shouldn't modify your car and the officer has descrition in this "blitz".

Here's what i got so far, let me know if I should continue or not. Kinda focouses on the same thing, i used most of the keypoints but I think its a bit more organized.

Quote:
My name is Nick Anghel. I am the administrator of Vital Motion, a vehicle enthusiast group based in the Waterloo region. Our members span across Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph, Brantford and several other small cities within the area.

Our club has recently become aware of the “blitz” that the Waterloo Regional Police is organizing every Friday night regarding modified cars in the region. We feel that the Highway Traffic Act is too vague on topics regarding modified vehicles. We would appreciate any clarification that you could give us on aftermarket exhaust, lowering, air intakes, tinted windows, forced induction, nitrous oxide and other such items that are considered “modifications”.

The members of Vital Motion have taken actions to ensure that their vehicles meet the requirements specified by the department of motor vehicles, insurance companies and other such regulatory mandates.

With the increasing amount of young deaths this year, we understand that the police force must take initiative to curve the amount of high speed fatalities. Unfortuantely, the majority of these deaths were young teenagers between the ages of 17 and 19, involved with family sedans, mini vans or other non-modified vehicles. Teenagers cannot afford to own a vehicle let alone modify one, especially with today’s increasing insurance rates.

Vital Motion does not condone any type of conduct that may be considered illegal, which includes street racing. Targeting modified vehicles is a stereotype, and border line predigest. If you were to stereotype a person because of their race, or the car they drive and “blitz” them to potentially stop them from doing something illegal.................
if not, tell me now so i dont waste time at work
