When does insurance see tickets? conviction or issue date?

Alright I just got off the phone with bell air direct as an anonymous caller. They said that if I have been ever issued a ticket then ITS on their records and they can see it EVEN if I haven't gone to court yet.

I remember at least a cpl times reading here on the boards that insurance doesn't find out till you get convicted.

Its too late to go and get a drivers abstract today and hoping someone can answer this today.

^^^if u dont get convicted then it doesn't go on ur insurance

you have to remember, insurance doesnt give a shit what the ticket is for, they see it as, minor or major offence and charge u accordingly...

IE, racing means a 100% surcharge
where as, muffler tickets don't mean shit unless u have a lot of them

I've heard a little secret, not sure if it works though.

a ticket never goes onto your abstract till its closed. so when you get a ticket, pay it but pay an extra $5. they will send you a cheque for $5 sometime later but don't cash the cheque, that keeps the ticket open thus not going on your record.

I've heard it from a few people, two of which being cops (uncle and a random man I know)

tickets hit your record/abstract once they've been paid.

so if I get a ticket today and I pay it monday, the ticket hits my record on money BUT insurance will not bump up your rate until you re-new because they cannot change they rate half way throu etc...

so if your insurance was issued say Jan 07 and you have a 6 month policy which would be up june so as of july 1st, the ticket would be on your insurance record and your rates would go up.

Apparently true but who knows. Everyones been spreadin that secret like wildfire. Now, if everyone keeps doing it what do you thinks going to happen? Obviously it's not going to work. IMO if its paid, its paid and you are convicted we dont care when you get your $5 back.

I know for a fact that it's from the date you pay it. I had this problem when I got my new insurance as one hadn't cleared off (because my court and payment was almost a year after) so I still had 3 tickets on my record so I was still high risk. This can work in your favour though. If I got another ticket, even 15 over, I would fight it just so taht I would have one of my other tickets off my record and wouldn't be high risk when it goes through.

The over payment method does not work.

The ticket is on your record once your convicted but the insurance company can see that one has been issued.

THIS IS retarded. I just came from the MTO they said I need a Safety and E-test to transfer ownership from my dads name to my name.

More crap I gotta pay for. I thought transferring between family was free dammit It doesn't say on the paper the "SWORN STATEMENT FOR A FAMILY GIFT OF A USED MOTOR VEHICLE IN THE ONTARIO" that i need a safety and etest.

I'm pretty sure its gonna pass both no problems but this is BS.

conviction date.
Go to one of those ontario driver licensing kiosks, print out an abstract of your record and you will see what they see.

I don't think it will be at all possible to get an e-test after 6pm... but I do know that there's a 24 hour garaage on Highway 24 just outside of Simcoe and one either on King or Main in Hamilton right downtown. You should be able to get a safety from either of them.

im pretty sure u just don't have to pay the transfer fees which, is like 25 bucks or something and then no taxes on it...(<<<big guess, its been a while since my rents talked about giving me their Jetta)

u still got safety and etest it...

Tickets only show up on your drivers licence history when they have been registered as a conviction though the courts. So if you pay the ticket (check off the 'guilt box and pay the fine) or you fight it and are found guilty, then there is conviction registered and it will show up on your licence history.
The Driver's Licence history is what insurance companies look at. And they have to pay to inquire into your licence history, its not an automatic notification from the ministry.
The only other ways they can find out if you have been charged would be:
1) If you call and tell them (very honest people, who have way too much cash)
2) You are involved in a reportable collision, they will find out when someone files a claim.
3) A police officer inquires to see if a vehicle is actually insured (fail to have insurance).

we'll it doesn't matter I disclosed to the insurance company i have a second ticket issued but not convicted that way they can't screw me for non-disclosure.

they based my premiums on 1 ticket.

Saving about 800 bux switching companies and getting the car in my name.

Passed safety and e test yesterday and blew a damn headlight this morning! What BS!
