so the moral of the story is go 49 over the speed limit and like the guy from the ING commercials says...save your mon-ee

jokes, jokes...$10,000 + jail time is a little excessive, especially for non-street-racers. My ex lived on the edge of Paris/Ayr/Drumbo, and it's a good 45 minutes to get to his farm from Kitchener...if you're going 100. He works in KW, and liked to travel 140-160 on the 60-80km roads to make the morning commute easier...desolate roads that no one else uses, so if he does something stupid, it's only his ass on the line.

Expansion of highways is a very temporary fix. Within a few years the expanded highway is just as full as the former 'narrow' highway used to be.

If you want them to be able to tell you exactly how much those roads are used, all they have to do is give you and everyone else that uses them a transponder and.... wait a minute, there IS such a road out there...

The traffic on the 407 may be lower, but that's due to its cost not because it has 20 lanes in each direction. Make the 401 a pay highway and you instantly reduce the number of cars on it. Flame on

I hate to break it but anyone who drives from KW to Toronto is a racer! If you go in the passing lane and arent going atleast 130 you better move over.

^only true when the are expanded to meet current demands and not in anticipation of future demands, the 401 should really be minimum 5 lanes each way from K-w to eastside T.O, consider how old those 3 lanes are, 30 years? now they are jammed daily.

So your saying 3 lanes is enough, 2 in some instances, what are you smoking, glue? pass it over here so I can see things from your perspective, ever commuted to/from the GTA?

1 accident or dead car cripples a 2-3 lane highway, whereas, a 5 lane highway can close 2 lanes and still function.

I agree. Driving from Kitchener to Ajax (or the opposite) takes awhile at 100. I also drive from past Guelph to KW daily for school and if I want it to take less than 45 minutes I've gotta drive a little quick.

Cruise control at 150 for either of those drives if traffic permits.

^ I know driving to the skydome, I was following 30 or so cars going alot faster then the speed limit, everyone was driving safely and never once felt like my safety was an issue. Even when it came to full stops from high rates of speed everyone did so safely....as long as you follow at proper distances...I love driving around Toronto.

What, all those people who don't signal, or even when they do still cut in front of you? The stop and go bullshit 400 series highways through there. Yeah, great city to drive in. I love it.

what part of the 401 is this? I find the 401 to be the slowest 400series highway i've driven on. i drive from k/w to Halton regularly and i cruise at 113kph in the civic and pass i'd say 65-75% of the people on the highway. Yes there are some idiots doing 130+ but definately not the norm by any means. even if it were that doesn't make it 'ok'.
be reasonable, people driving at 130+ DO cause accidents becuase the majority are not at that speed.

I'm driving the 401 everyday now, passing lane is above 130 kph now except for the trucks and maybe 15-20 % of the cars

Suprised no one has posted about the accident from last year and the announcement of the driver being 2 times over the legal limit

Im not talking about rush hours sorry. But honestly id rather someone not signal and drive safely then signal and make rash changes/moves. I can read someone elses intent alot better then some crazy person signaling everywhere. Just because they dont signal doesnt mean you dont know what they are doing....my exposure to 400 series highway is limited and generaly the experience is good. I just have alot of patience...

when i drive 120 ppl blow by me you pass over 60% of people going 113 LOL why do u cruise as such an odd number like 113 why not 115. I dont see a problem with people going above the limit, its better than someone holding up traffic

i dont do rush hour driving, i'm on the road any time from 10am-8pm

as to why 113, that's at just over 3k rpm and thats where i get the best milage in the civic so that's why its the odd number

Mice Are Mice, Ducks Are Ducks, Speeders Are Racers? WTF?
First They Started Social Profiling Modified Cars, Now They Use That Same BS On Speeders?

Follow The Flow Of Traffic, And Leave More Then Enough Space And You'll Have No Problems. How Many Deaths Happen On The AutoBahn? Speeding Is Speeding None The Less, And If Its Law, You Shouldn't Do It. HOWEVER, Speeding Is Speeding. NOT Racing.
Look At ANY Definition Of "Racing" And Youll Find You Need More Then One.

London -> Kitchener, 140 whole way, passed two cops radaring. Nobody got pulled over, the fast lane was doing 145, second lane was doing 110-130 depending. and the right far lane was doing 100-110. Slowed down for the construction spots but yeah, its a fast highway. The cops were being VERY sneeaky yesterday I must say.

I was pulled over tonight, got a ticket on the 401 west bound just before franklin blvd in Cambridge. Was so close to being home, was in my dads 2007 RL and I didnt feel myself going that fast, it was just after I took someone over got clocked at 168. Told the officer I was going about 145. Car impounded for 7 days and liscense gone for 7 days. I agree I was stupid and speeding but this law is retarded. I was out of the country from April - End of September and I hadnt a clue this was the situation. Theres no set fine, I have to go to court for it. My record is clean, no other ticket on it. Does anybody have a clue from past experience what kind of punishment i will be looking at??
