Insurance for Japanese car?
I'm in the process of buying a vehicle that's been imported from Japan (it's currently registered in another province). My insurance company (Meloche Monnex) has been great with me and I really don't want to leave them, but they can't say yes or no to insurance on this new car. I did however, get somewhere with them today. The guy I spoke to said he believes I will be able to insure it.
I have found one company that said they would insure the car at a reasonable rate, CERTAS. This type of car isn't very common around my area, so I'm hoping some of you guys in SW ontario can help out maybe. Any ideas on possible insurance companies? Just want some ideas as backups. BTW, have searched around but only found some bits and pieces of info on modded cars. |

You should look into classic car insurance. Most of those companies insure cars 15 years old older only and they are amazing in price and coverage. I know people with Aristos and Skylines who pay less than $500 a year. If I knew any company specifically I would say it but just call around and see.
What kind of car are you getting? I have my Mugen EF8 insured with Aviva and they are great. CRX Forum ------------------ Honda CR-X If you need it I can get it. |

Quick response, thanks.
It's a Mazda GTX. Not a well known import, but that's why I like it Plus, I have a background with this engine. I was planning on swapping a GTX engine in to an Escort GT I have (Skuce knows me from another forum), but I found this car and couldn't say no.Any problems getting insured through Aviva? |

If you get a car imported and properly certified to canada/Ontario any company HAS to insure it they cannot deny you. BUT some companys will not take vehivles 15 years or older.
classic car insurance is sold by Silver Wheels google it..........BUT you have to have 10 years driving experience with you G before they will insure you at all. ------------------ 1996 Viper Red Cavalier Z24 15.116@90.95 What do i know I'm just another J-Body Owner |

I've found an insurance company that will definitely cover me (and at a very reasonable rate too).
Matt and Daisy, I think I'll just post pics of it when it arrives on FEOA. I'll stay quiet until then. |

That's alright Daisy. I'm debating keeping the car and selling the truck. I really have no use for it, it's awful in snow and doubles my gas consumption.
Update on the car - arranged shipping today for it. It should be on a train leaving Calgary next Tuesday, arriving in Toronto 7-10 days later. |
