FULL STORY

Deadly Game

Just after G.T.A. police forces kicked off a campaign aimed at curbing street racers, the Ontario Provincial Police believe a fatal crash on the Queen Elizabeth Way may be the result of a street race.

Authorities were called to the scene around 5am Saturday morning, where they found a car in a ditch at the Q.E.W. and Trafalgar Road.

"Witnesses report three vehicles travelling at approximately 200 kilometres an hour, driving wildly on the Queen Elizabeth Way, Toronto bound," Sergeant Cam Woolley said. “The two other vehicles that were racing with this one have fled the scene.”

Police said 22-year-old Saleem Scott, of Toronto, died after he was ejected from a speeding car that flipped and rolled repeatedly. There were five men in the vehicle that lost control and crashed.

Three of them received minor injuries and the driver was uninjured.

Operation E.R.A.S.E. (Eliminate Racing on Streets Everywhere) is a cooperative program involving nine police forces. It was launched nearly a week after two young men were killed when the car they were in hit a tree at Adelaide and Parliament Streets. Police said the car was travelling at around 100 kilometres an hour and the crash was the result of a street race.

If you have any information about Saturday's crash contact Burlington O.P.P. at (905) 681-2511.

200km/h my ass, that old Corolla could not do more then 150-160 i bet.
More reasons for cops to enforce the blitz now.

It's summertime boys, be prepared for more of the same. It sounds more like stupidity and hormones to me than street racing.

It seems like if any of the follwing 3 things is part of an accident then is autmatically labled as a street racing incident
1) Modified car
2) Young driver
3) High speed.

Brutal

i also agree with this.

i dunno, call me crazy but i think it would be more effective and better use of police time if they had more cops on the roads, more cops at the "street racing hot spots". i think that would prevent more crashes than giving intake tickets to 17 year olds. you don't need an intake to race just like having an intake automatically mean you race with five ppl in your car.

it's sad that buddy killed his friend..

i just heard on Z103.5 that it was in Oakville, one of the cars was a "souped up" Honda Accord, reaching speeds of 200km/h, weavin thru traffic, lost control, got airborn, flipped a couple times, and thats pretty much it.

Thats true... I have a cone filter on my escort.... That mean i'm gonna race? HELLS NO! It's a 2nd gen escort come on... It's an economy car that i decided to make look better. I'll be pissed if the cops give me a ticket for mods on my car.

HEH, unless it was an Accord with a V6 or something major done to the engine, there's no way in hell it reached speeds of 200km/h.........aren't they limited to like 180km/h anyways??? If it was a Corolla it'd be lucky to get to 175. I remember my old car would go about 170km/h.......NO faster ......did it twice just for kicks! Took about 10 minutes to get up to speed

I can't see anyone racing to whatever speeds they raced to with 5 people in the car. Normally by the time you reach 50 or 60 you know who the winner is anyways.

Why would anyone race with 5 people in the car? It sounds like these guys were just fucking around.

It seems like anytime there’s an accident that involves a sport compact they call it street racing.

Oh, look at the Civic over there, with the parking ticket on the windshield! He must have been street racing!

Sounds like media warping to me, when there is an accident or fataility with any " young driver" police always suspect " street racing " it absoultely a media grabber for sure and not reflective of the truth....

man im gonna go on speakers corner and rant about this..
