it's funny how fast people forget that we are innocent until proven guilty. it's profiling at it's finest.

This is one of the dumbest things I have read on here, do you have any idea what you are saying? That is against the law and the officers would loose there badges in a hurry.

Is VM supposed to be like Hells Angels now or something that any officer would just up and forget about anyone else breaking the law so that they could give one of you a ticket

more like hells kittens. :tounge:

But seriously, this is the problem. The other day I was pulled over for my exhaust being ANOYING to the officer. Same thing happened to my friend dave. I was in both cars. The officer told us that it is anoying and it is up to his discretion. Well guess what, that does not stand in court. The exhaust level must be lower then 95 decibels, mine is, the car must be e-tested to be on the road, MINE IS, the car must be safetied, MINE IS, so the point i am making is that no where in the process of registering my vehicle over into my name did anyone mentiong anything about my Howitzer style muffler on my car. The cops keep telling us that it isn't EMISSIONS legit, WELL WHAT THE FRICK are they talking about. Because a muffler is too MUFFLE the sound from the exhaust. I worked in an exhuats factory, the biggest in north amerca actually, AND NOTHING THAT GOES INTO THOSE MUFFLERS has anything to do with emissions control. Just some steel/aluminium and some baffling, that is all. Tell me how that makes a car pass emissions better then one without, its simple, IT DOES NOT. In fact the guy at AUTOPRO who did the test on my car said it wouldn't have passed with the stock muffler because the exhaust leaving the muffler would have been too condensed. He says the larger diameter exit on my bomber muffler helped me pass. Thanks to vibrant.

I hope someone raises that issue with the cops!

I for one have a friend of mine who is an officer with waterloo regional police. He is a good guy, its not all cops that are stereotyping, only a few. And just like one tuner getting into an accident makes the rest of us look bad, one power tripping cop does the same for the whole squad.

Lates!

A friend of mine carries a hand held DB reader just for that reason, but he is not a member of your club nor does he drive and import or subcompact like most of your member's.

Thats my point, its not just you guy's being hit its all performance vehical's. Your club looks to be one of the largest in K/W area, so going by simple ratio's, your club will get bugged alot. But to claim they are singaling out VM it rediculas.

He drives a Camaro by the way and has been pulled over many times for his loud exhaust.

So what do you actully think that Officers would let him use his own db Meter?? I highly doubt it. And even if they did, what limit to they measure his car too?? It doesn't say any number in the HTA and that is what most Officer go by.(Actully most go by thier discretion as the laws are too vague)

I've been asking Police Officers to come to our WED night meets and expalin us the laws many times, finaly today somone from WRP promissed they will try to organize something.

I actually found a decibel limit in some other bill/act that had a specific number for passanger vehicals... i'll try to look it up

edit: found it

the Motor Vehicle Safty Act... it says 80db, the 95 number is in California but for some reason everyone likes to apply it to everywhere else in northamerica

depends on throttle position... just feather the throttle in neutral and it wont be as loud (but not by much)

Actually Kyle, there is no law stating that it has to be under 95 dB.. Thats in California. I talked to a Sgt in Guelph(the one in charge of the blitz), and he was going let me look through a current copy of the HTA, as well as every other book he had in his office regarding safeties and emissions.

Plain and simple, THERE IS NO DB LAW IN ONTARIO. It is 100% the officers discretion. Anyone claiming to have proof of a law, its either not true or way out of date.

You are right about mufflers having nothing to do with emissions though, any cop claiming it does it flat out wrong.

You know why cops keep stopping people with loud exhausts?? Because they're CONSTANTLY getting complaints from average people about the noise, especially late at night. If you've got a loud exhaust, keep the revs down(especially late at night)... its not a hard concept to grasp. It has nothing to do with street racing, and everything to do with keeping the general public happy.

If you want to talk to the officer I spoke to, I can give you his name and number, hes on vacation until september though. If you want to second guess his opinion, I wouldn't, since he is a licensed car, truck and commercial vehicle mechanic on top of being a cop.

They should do what SEMA did in Cali, if you get pulled over and get a ticked I belive you have 72hrs to go to a inspetion station to get the exhaust tested for sound and pollution, if passes the muffler gets tagged as a legal muffler and you go to court and ticked gone. remember when that law was trying to be passed about modifing cars and it never happened its because SEMA stepped in

i don't know about this profiling thing, I don't consider myself a member of VM, nor do i wish to be one. I just enjoy the forum and the people. Anyways, Most people know what i drive and i'm not hard to miss, while at ottawa westmount timmies the other nite, Myself and Hector had a nice chat with an officer admiring my car, i thought he was going to give me shit for being just over 1" off the ground, but all he did was comment on how low the car was, and asked what i do about curbs and speedbumps. Thats it. The muffler issue is just like Will said, it's to keep the public happy, there is nothing that pisses me off more then getting woken up by soimone flying by my house eartly in the morning, thats not profiling...shit my dad got pulled over in my jetta for the exhuast.

Plain and simple, don't act like a tool on the roads and draw attension to yourself on the forum and you won't have many problems with the police.

This is true...reason why. My engine probably has 2-3 times the displacement most of the cars on this club do....and I have a full 3" exhaust off the motor and my car is not loud, almost sounds factory, but it's free flowing. Take the few mustangs on here, they too have large motors w/exhausts, but are not extremely loud. Now take the average import car with an exhaust....and I'm not bashing your cars here I'm making a true point....but it's 10x's as loud. I think your mufflers actually amplify the sound instead of deaden it. My car alarm will honestly go off due to a "fart can" (excuse the slander) every time....and it's set to low.

Now, when I'm trying to sleep @10 in the sub-burbs(nice and quiet) since I have to get up at 5:45 for work, do you thing I like being awaken by a over obnoxious exhaust? No,not really....I'd like to go out and put the lid back on his/her pickle jar....so like SRT4 said, have some respect for others and also don't screw it up for others.

BlackShadow: I have a 2.5" TB exhaust w/ high flow cat on my 4 banger and it almost sounds stock. There is a bit of a rumble in high rpm, but nothing that you will hear from inside your house.
The mustangs in this club are way louder then my car, so if you choose carefully even an Import can be very quiet.

Well I'll take a guess and say I prolly have the most displacement of anyone on this board and I have dual 2.5" cat's into a Y and a 3" cat back to the muffler. Its not overly load with regular driving but if I rug it then it is abit over kill. But it is still way quieter then the kid next door that owns a saturn with the "fat can" on it. That guy comes and goes all night long and it drives me nut's, to make matters worse he just has to rug it everytime he takes off.

I agree with you vwguy, some are quiet, but it's the other's, and you all know who you are, and you screw it up for the rest...

As you can see, here is another individual that agrees with me:

Not sure what year but I think its a first gen, but green and ya its a four door. All it has is the muffler, no other mods far as I can tell and no body kit, unless you count the fact that one door is a different green to the rest of the car. :tounge:

He prolly doesnt even realize just how anoying it is when he's reving it up all the time. It only bothers me in the night when I am trying to sleep.
