The truck with airbags that had its plates pulled was because the brackets for the 4 links were too thin, and the bolts were pulling right through. It was only a matter of time before they let go completely. That same night they had another truck on airbags go through, and he left ticket free.

As for them being more willing to help out.... Its because they are getting bad press from enthousiasts for being unwilling to work towards solving the problem. They're out to keep the general public happy, and if the common conception is that they're unwilling to help, its a bad image.

Plain and simple, THERE IS NO DB LAW IN ONTARIO. It is 100% the officers discretion. Anyone claiming to have proof of a law, its either not true or way out of date.
If you want to talk to the officer I spoke to, I can give you his name and number, hes on vacation until september though. If you want to second guess his opinion, I wouldn't, since he is a licensed car, truck and commercial vehicle mechanic on top of being a cop.
I really wouldn't put too much faith in everything he says. didn't they bust someone for having airbags in their truck (guelph tribune article) and now they're legal as long as nothing rubs? the sticky further up in the forum is up to date. see this link as it explains when the acts were changed and how up to date the link is

I think it's odd that the police are all of a sudden contacting people and setting up meetings. you said before that they wouldn't give you the time of day, and now they're your new best friends . Fighting every ticket and wasting officers and court time might've helped bring this around

Alot of rules in the safety books are left to mechanics descrestion. MTO and probably police with their licenses could fail a vehicle for the stupidest things. I've seen an MTO safety inspection done on a car that had an illegal safety done on it. Took him 2 hours to determine the car failed (only needed 1/2 hour to find the holes in the floor, rotted frame, faulty brakes). You name it, it was checked. Everycar that went through for a safety could be failed if you were a complete prick. Ask him if the ABS or SIR has to be working for a safety.
Yo Augiedog do i know you man?
