FOR THOSE BUYING THE RADAR DETECTOR!
Don't start raging when you find that the device you are purchasing isn't up to par. Lets put it this way, I have the "clone" to the Valentine detector and this bad boy was 350USD 2 years ago. Just don't get pissed off at the merchandise because it isn't 100% effective. Chances are you will notice the cop at the same time your detector reads it as a priority signal!
Here is a review from car and driver. ![]() Obviously it will be a little effective but don't TAKE YOUR eyes off the road ahead of you! |

True it is not top of the line by any means, but nobody really wants to pay $500 for one...I have used a fair amount of them in my day as well, and last one I used was a shitty Uniden LRD937 and it saved my ass quite a few times...bought that for $50US...i've been told that this cobra is a good unit and excels the uniden...just ease into it though...thanks for the info though

I did some research when I saw the gb on the Cobra, and came across the same stuff u speak of Kyle. Hence why I thought I was born with my eyes for free and buy contacts for $120, so why spend another $150 for something that does the same as my eye balls.

anyone that believes this detector will save them 100% is sadly mistaken. your eyes are the best bet 90% of the time.. but there are lots of time i'm surprised to see piglets.. if this helps me once it'll be worth it.

Especially for us it will pay itself off! If it saves us from one ticket not only will it save us from having to pay that one ticket but it will save us from our insurance companies raping us even more.

any radar detector will be a massive improvement over your eyes, especially in cars like ours. how often are you looking for CDs or looking at the chick in the passenger seat.
do some research on how they work before you think your eyes are better. radar sweeps around corners and obstacles. on a clear open stretch any half assed radar detector will get hits from at least one KM away if not more. the best use for them by far is when you're bombing around town at 80 or 90 and its the end of the month. city cops dont use detector detectors. so if one is waiting in the next sidestreet you will have him 3 lights before you get there. they are also fantastic for saving your ass from unmarked cars. lazy cops leave their radars on when they're just peddling around town between traps, that way it even works as a bonified cop detector. i've had one in my car non stop for 5 years. i think i get saved at least once a week if not more.... like REALLY saved, like the cop was waiting at the turn off for the street i live on because neighbors were complaining. i think the group buy is an awesome idea. just remember they're not popular with police... |

However, we were just warning people that this detector has not been given many decent reviews. We just don't want fellow VM members waisting money or purchasing something that doesn't meet their expectations. Quote:
$150 - detector -$110 (minimum) on 1 speeding ticket + whatever the fine is for owning and operating a detector in Ontario + $150 for the confiscation of the detector ----------------------------------------- >$190 (just add on the fine for using the detector in Ontario) That's just my 2 cents though... But just like ideas, to each their own. I'm just trying to present a civil argument here...not trying to be personal or offend anyone. ------------------ Mike R. 2002 Honda S2000 2004 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer Edition 1998 Dodge Durango SLT - For sale |

nono, i wasnt trying to be a dick. it just doesnt make sense to me why you wouldn't get one.
there are no radar detectors that can hide from cops now. they now used a revised system yanked from the military from the mid-90's. my buddy is aux-OPP. VG-2 is bullshit as is the generation after them, the cops are now using leftover military hardware. in a pack of 10 cars who are all tailgating and travelling at 130, an OPP on the side of the road can pick out the exact car that has the detector as they go by. so if its the 3rd car in line, their detector detector is accurate enough to pinpoint exactly what car radar detectors in general are like batteries. you can buy duracell versus no-name but the difference is miniscule. the massively expensive brands may have a slightly better return rate but honestly........... radar, radar detectors and crystal wave radio technology has been around since 1940. there haven't been any massive improvements lately, get what i'm saying? from low to mid priced detectors i would say the difference is warantee and build quality..... detection range will not noticably differ. they all use the same crystals from the same supplier. the reason the valentine and ones like it are more expensive are because of the other shit they throw in the package, like direction finding, compases, voice recognition, stereo integration and all that shit. actual radar detection technology is the same old shit since 60 years ago. if they pull you over for having the detector you just put it in your back pocket. they aren't allowed to search your person unless you are being arrested. me and friends do it all the time. if the cop sees it on your windshield, thats a different thing, thats happened to me too. i just got back from the states and it was still on the dash in plain sight and the cop came over and grabbed it out of my car while i was beside him at a light. |

I didn't think you were acting/being (like) a dick at all...and I didn't want to appear like one either.
I guess that it just all comes down to personal preference...as does basically everything in life. I love dark haired women, some guys love blonds. Either way, it's your money, spend it however u want, u work hard for it, or at least look like you're working hard when your boss is around. Basically, Kyle and I just wanted to inform people, as u are doing too. It all boils down to none of us wanting to see other fellow car enthusiusts getting ripped off. ------------------ Mike R. 2002 Honda S2000 2004 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer Edition 1998 Dodge Durango SLT - For sale |

i don't know if anyone mentioned this.. but i didn't feel like reading the enitre thread.. LOL
but cops radar can detect a radar dector.. unless u have a radar detector detecotr :? lol but anyways.. place a chain on your rear bumper just engouhf that it will touch the ground here and there... it aparently causes a electric charge around your car fuccking up the radar gunes readings..not a %100 on this but i am not a big fan of having the acasional sparks flying around my gas tank... ![]() |

The new technology is called Spectrum something, and no this detector doesn't save yu from it, ut only about 60% of the OPP cars on the 401 have it so far and the 401 OPP cops get everything first, so i doubt anyone else has it.
