Cross drilled rotors...
Does anyone know if cross drilled rotors can be machined? If so, where is a good place to get mine done in the Cambridge area? I'm pretty sure one of them needs done, even though they're less than a year old.
My mechanic said that they can't be machined (I think he's just trying to sell me a new set of rotors) and he was going to charge me quite a bit of money just to take one of them off to check it out. Where's a good brake place that I can take my car to at least have someone tell me what's making the noise in the first place... |

I was told that it's probably the pads weren't installed properly.
So do you know if drilled rotors can be machined? And where in the Cambridge area is a good place for brake work? |

What pads are you running? Some pads are just plain noisy to begin with.

I don't remember what kind of pads they are. I do know that this clicking sounds coming from only the front drivers side brake shouldn't be happening...
So does ANYONE know if cross drilled rotors can be machined? And where in the Cambridge area is a good place for brake work? |

Yes the can be turned just like a regular rotor.
Sounds like you've got problems other than the rotor. Take it to whoever you like from the sticky in the Local Shop Talk forum. ------------------ This is where you type a bunch of shit about how awesome your car is. A clicking from a corner can also be a failing wheel bearing...

To see if it is the wheel bearing do this test. Rasie the car and seeing how it is front wheel problems and front wheel drive put it in N. Spin the wheel and feel the spring for very bad vibration/grinding. Check the other side as well to compare. If they are vibrating like crazy then more then likely it is the wheel bearing. As for the turning down the rotors, as long as it is now past the point (not sure what the measurement is) then you can get them machined, but, for the price of rotors, you might as well just get new ones. ------------------ <Kevin> 1995 Chevy Cavalier- RIP??? 2003 Chevy Trailblazer LT EXT- Daily Driver 1985 Pontiac Fiero GT Fastback- New toy Last edited by NightHawk; 03-16-2008 at 07:55 AM.
